Legacy Of The PS3

What do you think the final legacy of the PS3 will be?

Pretty damn good. It had considerably less games than the PS2 did, but it came back strong after a bad first couple of years.

Worse than PS2, better than PS1, but definitely another great one to remember in the future. It's hard to pick which one is better, but i think all of them have a special place in gaming history.

The PS3 will have a fine legacy, I'm sure. I honestly don't know why people are so hung up on the PS2 over the PS3. Maybe it's because of the game library? I don't think that's a fair assessment on its own, but it is something to consider, I suppose.

The bad legacy of the PS3:
- being the technically more powerful console than the Xbox 360 but being beaten in the graphics department almost constantly. Okay, I love the PS3. It's my favorite current gen console. But why can't the PS3 blow the 360 out when it comes to graphics if the PS3 has the more powerful hardware?
- Ripping off the Wii. PS Move? Come on.
- Six-axis - clunky and poorly implemented controller

I think it will be a solid addition to the Sony legacy. I still think that most people view the PS2 as Sony's standout console.

I think it's going to have a very good legacy, mainly thanks to the Naughty Dog exclusives. There was a lot of good stuff on the PS3 but I'm not quite sure if most people would consider it more outstanding than the PS2. It really was interesting seeing the differences between the poorly optimized games at launch and what we ended with when the developers knew how to squeeze every last drop of performance out of the system.

It'll be the console that is ranked most underrated.

It was obviously vastly better than the xbox in every frickin way. Graphics, games, hardware, service, everything. But MS beat them to market and beat them with marketing after they did.

It leaves behind something to be desired, as I feel like we never saw it at its full capability. The Last of Us was a great saving grace from all the bad that could be said. But on the whole, it was a great system with great games, and several innovative exclusives from launch all the way to this point.

True: the PS3 had a lot of excellent exclusives. If it weren't for games like Uncharted I probably wouldn't have even bought my PS3 to begin with. I don't have a preference for the PS3 over the Xbox 360 (or vice versa), but I certainly think it was (and is) an excellent system. I don't think every console needs to leave behind some huge legacy since they're more like stepping stones than monuments.

I think the legacy usually lies within the library. I personally didn't find that many exclusives that I liked as much as past ones, but that's probably just me. I'm sure there are lots of others who found a big amount of enjoyment throughout the PS3's life cycle, and I think that's the best anyone can hope for, both gamers and game companies alike. Of course, having bonus gems that transcend generations would be a lot better, but it's not practical to expect it all the time.
