Less Commonly Talked about Playstation Games Which Bring Back Good Memories

I feel like sometimes some of my favorite games that I played as a kid weren't always the top sellers. I mean of course the top sellers were fun too, but I really like the more obscure games as well. I cannot remember the name of the game for the life of me, but there was one Playstation 1 game in particular which always gave me a good laugh. It was a racing game, but it was in this odd blocky style with a japanese-retro feel to it, that always ended in laughs/crushed spirits after a loss.

There was this one game called Neo Planet. It was in Japanese so I couldn't understand the game much, but all I know is I get to choose a planet, it's empty, nothing but land. And I am like a god that can put trees and what not on it. And animals automatically appear. The game didn't seem to have an english version and somehow it didn't get popular. I have yet to meet someone who knows this game. When you google it all you will get is a picture of the CD cover. Nothing else. It was that unknown despite the unique gameplay. Now you will have games like Black & White or Reus and they get known easily.

I thought I had successfully found what you were talking about for a moment, but it all seems to just be music videos and different things pertaining to completely different games. That is a shame, as it looks awfully fun to play. Maybe I'll be able to eventually hunt it down in my local Gamestop or something by chance.

I've always preferred the less popular titles because the famous ones are often too complicated for me and probably a lot more geared towards more serious gamers. It's probably why I like fighting games so much, because the buttons are relatively similar with every title and any button you press will eventually prove to be a punch or a kick anyway. That said, one of the less talked about fighting games I've recently remembered is Def Jam: Fight For NY. This game is so unique and far less novelty-driven than what I expected it to be, the first time I heard about it and started playing it as well.

I don't know if this is considered a less talked about game but when I was still new to the PS 1, I loved to play Armored Core. It was a game where the player could control mech robots. It was pretty cool back in the day as I could fly around the arena, shoot some lasers and missiles and the like. I absolutely loved the split screen two player mode. It was so much fun to do battle with a friend.

There was this one game, Sonic Heroes, that really brings back some good memories when I was younger. It was a twist on the typical Sonic game where you're in a team of three instead of soloing it or co-oping with Tails. The storyline was very typical for the series though, which quickly changed when I found the secret arc after beating everyone's campaign. It perfectly blended the classic speed of the sonic games while slowing it down at certain parts so you can really enjoy defeating the enemies and destroying things and whatnot. All in all, it was a pretty long and well-made game and I loved playing the mini-games with friends. There were some puzzle elements to it as well that really freshened the franchise up. I wish it were more popular, maybe Sega might have made a sequel.

I loved the Army Men games for the PS1. They were some of my most-played games back in the day, and they bring back a lot of good memories. I remember playing capture the flag with my brother, then having him grab my flag and start running back to his base. I was totally accepting my fate until his army man suddenly exploded and dropped my flag. Then I remembered about the mines I had laid out earlier in the game and laughed my head off. Good times, for sure.

Yep, I enjoyed the two player battles but me and my opponent usually resorted to "peeking" tactics because it was split-screen. Also, I had to use a lot of cheats in order to finish the game. I used an invincibility cheat and a weapons cheat.

ATV 3 or 4 my brother and I played this game for hours. Sonic Heroes is also another game its gameplay was very unique i have to pick that game up again sometime.

Alright, I'm going to pull something out that took me a minute to think of. It was the first console game I completed that had any breadth to it. I tried with its predecessors but wouldn't succeed until later. It was still playstation 1 era. I sat at it for hours. I never checked a guide but I went through every nook and cranny I could think of looking for items. Final Fantasy XI. It won't have the same appeal as X. Both games touch on dark subjects.

XI was about the discovery of self and what happens when that identity is taken away. It was about finding love in strange places. It forced you to lose in battles sometimes and I would sit there thinking here comes the game over screen but no it was just the first masterful story I was watching. It was what won me over to Square's vision of FF games. I would repick up Final Fantasy 8 and then play through the Parasite Eve games as well. It was a great time...

I'm going to go hunt down a PS 1 emulator now, thanks guys.

For me it would have to be ATV: Offroad Fury 2. It was my first game for the PS2, as it came with the system when I got it for Christmas. I remember pretty much staying up several nights just playing the multiplayer with my friends. The one mode I enjoyed the most was free ride, a it allowed you to pick a stage and just run wild. That's also one game I wouldn't mind being remade in HD.

Tony Hawk Underground 2 was another game I played with my friends a lot. There was tons of different games, tricks, and levels to do after you beat the game that kept me busy for awhile.

Oh yeah, it was pretty unforgiving at the time. I used to be pretty bad at games when I was younger, so I almost always cheated or set the difficulty as low as it went. I remember spending a lot of time on one of the Army Men levels trying to get to a "secret area" that ended up just being a glitch in the background.

Without a doubt, the entire Sly Cooper series brings back my favorite PS2 memories. It never got as much attention as the Jak and Ratchet series which is a real shame, since I found Sly to be much more enjoyable with a better storyline to boot. The new 4th game got some popular attention and the collector series was released, so I think the series became a little more common as time went on. Man I miss those games, so many hours spent looking for glass bottles.

Two words, Azure Dreams. Very underrated, yet I consider this as the game that defined my Playstation 1 stint and my childhood gaming as a whole. I don't like to play roguelike games that much, but this game was a stellar exemption. If you haven't played this game, I highly recommend that you get an emulator and play it. 10/10 game!

ATV vs MX were always my some of my favorite games on the ps2 because they were just so cool and allowed to to play as more than just an motorbike or atv, you could be an airplane or even a crazy looking helicopter. Another game I strangely enjoyed was a PS1 Power Ranger's Time Force which I will say was pretty darn awful, though I found a sort of fun challenge in beating the darn thing.

There were a lot of sports games for the PS1, especially racing games, that I really enjoyed. I remember playing the heck out of a snowmobile game demo, but I don't remember what the name of the game was. Jet Moto is another one (that I probably already mentioned) that I liked playing a lot, even though I wasn't very good at it.

Maybe the game that you're taking about is Sled Storm. It was a racing game that involved snow mobiles. I liked it because the game looked great during the day, the race tracks had a lot of secret paths, and players were awarded extra points for performing stunts.

Could be; I don't really remember. I'll have to look up a video on YouTube or something. I'm fairly certain it was just a demo, but it was still really fun to play. I'm pretty sure it had a Rob Zombie song on the soundtrack, but then again it seems like all PS1 games had Rob Zombie on them back then.
