M.A.G. Massive Action Game

A bit surprised to see zero threads about this game. This is actually one of the reasons I picked up a PlayStation 3 when it was first getting popular. For those who aren't aware of this game, it was one of the few that REALLY showed off the power of the PlayStation 3 years ago. Great Visuals, massive battlefields, and the kicker.... 264 players in ONE server at a time. Most PC games don't even do that, but this was a console game and it did it VERY well. There was your typical class set up, The Assault Gunner, Sub machine Gunner, and the Sniper. Each one serving as an Engineer, Medic, and Recon. However, what made the game awesome was that up to level 20 or so, (Can't remember) it was entirely free 2 play. So, you didn't have to own the game to play, since you could download it off the PSN Market. However, if you didn't own it you were severly limited, since unlocks were rare, and the higher tier weapons/armor were incredibly stronger.

Other then that though, it featured vehicle combat, an amazing customization system to your armor and guns, and also had RPG elements with perks you could rank up. These included reload speed, health, movement speed, special ability cool down, things like that. Good times on that game, good times~ So, anyone else here play MAG when it was really popular? It still is, but no where near as much as it used to be.

Actually, this game is meant to to get its servers shut down fairly soon I'm pretty sure so after that the game will be pretty much unplayable.

I managed to play it when I first got my PS3 a few years ago, I do remember enjoying it but I was way out of my league. I got trampled by hardcore players and I just said to myself "Right. I ain't getting better at this" so I stopped playing. I only played it for like a few days though.

Actually found that out myself when I had to edit my post due to messing up the player count. It's a shame, but as I said the game isn't anywhere near as popular as it used to be. However, it'll be ENTIRELY unplayable once it gets shut down since there is no form of offline play, entirely restricted to Online. The game certainly was fun, but as you stated a lot of the hardcore players had a HUGE upper hand, since just about every upgrade was a direct upgrade with no negative effects.

Haha. Me too. I played this game avidly when I first got my PS3. Actually, if I remember this may have been a game I got with it. I enjoyed it. It was fun but after a while, I didn't get any better and got the crap beaten out of me every 3 steps.

Anyone know when the servers are getting shut down? Its within the next couple months, right?

Ahhh M.A.G. I remember playing this once I got my PS3 and I absolutely loved it. It is a true shame that the servers are shutting down because then people cannot experience one of the greatest FPS games ever made in history.

I have played it at my friends PS3 a long time ago. I was quite impressed with it at that time, but also I was impressed with the PS3 itself lol.
Anyways, I enjoyed my few hours of this game, but never got a chance to play it again (never owned a PS3). Sad to see it go.

I remember when I got into the beta for MAG. I think I got in because I preordered Uncharted 2 or something like that. Anyway since I started at the same time as everyone else there wasn't that skill gap the rest of you experienced and I had an amazing time. It was such a unique concept and it saddens me that the servers are shutting down soon. I might have to play it a bit more before that happens. So many great memories with that game but in the end I didn't have the time to dedicate myself to it enough. Let's hope they make a sequel for the PS4.
