Hi ALL,
I have previously owned PS1, Xbox, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 until I heard about the new 'next ten' consoles from Microsoft and Sony. I still have my PS3 and will NOT be getting rid of it as it was the original 60GB model which I upgraded to a 320GB and IS backwards compatible with the card reader etc...
I tried to research as much as I could on these new consoles being offered by two very resourceful manufacturers and tried as best I could to 'future proof' my investment. Suffice to say I WANTED a gaming console NOT a 'ONE BOX FOR ALL' as I felt this was something of little interest to me. I am sure in the USA there would be lots of people interested in these features but I am not one of them.
I weighed up the two consoles, their strenghts and weakness and gave up as they are quite different and need to be assessed on their individual merits. I will not knock either brand as this is a bold new move into future gaming. The short of this is that I decided on the Playstation 4 because it was what I felt was right for ME. My brother has opted for the Xbox One and he is happy with his decision as he is a Gears Of War 'die hard follower'.
I hope that both consoles do well as we need competition when it comes to gaming. If there was only one gaming manufacturer then there would be nothing to raise the bar and push the limits of the console to new and exciting heights. I would love to see the possibility of Xbox One gamers taking on Playstation 4 gamers ONLINE! Imagine Xbox V's Playstation across network..... That would be something because the best of Playstation would compete with the best of Xbox and there would be none of this 'which console is better'? Obviously, it would be only for the cross network games such as Call of Duty to name just one title. This is just a thought though...!
I have decided to upgrade my hard drive and have ordered a Seagate 1TB Hybrid Drive as I would like the loading times to be a little quicker and the capacity a bit higher as the new games take a lot of real estate. Luckily, Sony allows us to do this unlike the Xbox One. This was another reason I decided on the PS4.
I have been playing Call of Duty Ghosts and am not a serious gamer but am very impressed with the game and the console's abilities. I run mine on a Samsung 32" 3D Smart TV and the graphics are AWESOME. I have played Ghosts on my brother's Xbox One through a Sony Bravia 42" and found the PS4 is better but it may be due to my new TV.
I also like the user interface as it is neat and tidy unlike the Windows 8 style Xbox One. I tried navigating through the user interface and got confused so the 'back' button and I became fast friends. My brother has a lot of things 'pinned' to the initial screen and to me it looks very 'busy'. I like order not mayhem. BUT, again it is what he likes so good luck to him.
I apologise if anyone who is lucky enough to have both consoles but this is my honest opinion and why I made my choice.
I hope to use this forum to get a better understanding of this console and the future developments that are in the pipeline from Sony and their partners. I see the future of gaming to be very exciting in the coming years especially when I look back at the original consoles such as Atari... BOY! I am showing my age now!!!
