Most memorable "Game Over" scenes

When we play video games, be it console or PC, our characters get defeated sometimes, and eventually a "Game Over" scene appears right after we have consumed our last life or entered an area where we have abruptly decided to end that game. Most "Game Over" scenes are generic and we simply select "Continue" to keep playing the game. There are, however, a few "Game Over" scenes which are quite memorable, such as this one from "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark" where the character gets crushed by the ceiling for taking the king's crown outside the chapel. The game has numerous "Game Over" sequences where the player's character gets decapitated, but this ceiling crush scene is to me the most memorable.

What other "Game Over" scenes (console or PC) which you would consider memorable?

For me it must be the screens from the most recent Tomb Raider, not because of the screens themselves but because some of the deaths were so gruesome and the screen just showed Lara squirming and dying, sometimes it made me actually flinch.

WARNING: Pretty graphic violence!

The stock head chop game over one from elvira is FAR more gorey than that!

The one i remember the most was the Street Fighter Game over screen. Seeing Ryu or Ken with their face all smashed up is something that really got to me. And even more when a bunch of your friends were laughing at you because you lost the fight. That's the one i've always remembered.

It's probably the Game Over screen from Dark Souls. Why? Because I see that game over screen so many times that the image has burned itself in my skull so I can't take that image out of my head for as long as live. I love to hate that game it's so hard that it's so good.

Wow, this is a great question.

I entirely agree with the Tomb Raider deaths by the way. That is gruesome, terrible, awesome, amazing, terrible and...uh...terrible.

Because I tend to have to find someway to work Final Fantasy into a topic, I'm going to do so with FF 13 -2. This was one of the more interesting game over scenes and I use it with the thought of avoiding gruesome and killer type deaths.

In the game, you are attempting to create a time line that provides a good outcome for the world. In doing so, you have a moment where you fall through time essentially and you end up at your home island. All your friends are shadow people and everything is fake. Its all fake, even the person you've been trying to go after the entire time is there, but she too is fake. Then Sera, the main character, has this monologue about how she's so happy but she feels like something is wrong with everything. You chose to either go on with the game or you can just call it quits there. When you say that you're staying, Sera talks about how the world is perfect but it doesn't seem real. She keeps trying to remember something but she can never grasp it. There are people that come into her mind but she doesn't know who they are. There are times where she feels like she's the only person there but she's surrounded by everyone. Then she says something along the lines.

If this isn't real, its okay. It's all I want. This is fine.

Its such a departure from the strong protagonist you come to learn in the game and like kind of haunting at the same time.
