Most memorable games for PS1?

I owned a lot of PS1 games when I think, and still have so many memories of what they were like and how they made me feel. When you are young, games had so much more impact and effect on you and that's what makes them so memorable. There were many games I played, but some of the most memorable games I owned and played for PS1 were:

Grand Theft Auto - Thought this was awesome, I instantly got addicted to it because I had not previously played anything like it before, I really thought it was amazing lol. I loved the fact it was so open and it was like you could do whatever you want.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee - This was a really fun game I think, I really loved it because it was so strange, and I thought it was pretty scary as a kid too. I remember having a nightmare where the sound of Abe's chanting was in there! I guess I played it too much.

Resident Evil: Playing this at a young age made me realise why it had an 18 warning label on it. It was really awesome to play, but scary as hell too! I remember bracing myself before entering some of the rooms, in case any zombies were hanging around.

Oh boy, I firmly believe that the Playstation 1 had one of the best gaming libraries ever. It had a countless number of games for every genre. In order to answer your question, I will share the most memorable game that I've played on the PS1, along with some gameplay footage.

Azure Dreams - I consider this as THE game of my childhood. It was fun trying to collect all the monster eggs and trying to beat the tower. In addition to that, if you don't feel like going doing the grind, you could always try to improve your town by constructing buildings and you could also date some chicks. Best game ever.

Goddamnit, I miss this game so much. I would do anything to play this game again. It would be better if we could get an HD-remake.

Instead of turning this thread into a most memorable/favorite/best game for the PS1, I'd rather say most memorable moments in the games that I played because a lot of them were memorable. So, here goes:

Resident Evil - When the dog jumped to break the mirror. I literally jumped from my chair.
Silent Hill - The very first sequence wherein Harry Mason chased for his daughter through the fog and died. Then he woke up and found out that it was a dream. Whew.
Metal Gear Solid - When I finally found out how to sneak behind the guards and break their necks.
Final Fantasy VII - When Aerith died.
Final Fantasy VIII - The dance of Rinoa and Squall.
Final Fantasy IX - When Dagger cut her hair.
Xenogears - every second of the game.

I played Grand Theft Auto 2 more than I care to admit. I just loved the sense of humor, even though I really wasn't in the appropriate age group. I almost never completed actual missions, but that was one of the things I liked about it. I was really bad at driving the cars, though, so I crashed a lot and usually ended up blowing up or falling into a river.

Wow, i have never found anyone who played Azure dreams, without a doubt one of my personal favorite ps1 games! Gah! I have to go play it now.

My list however would have to be:
Metal Gear Solid 1 - It was my first contact with a stealth games, the story and overall atmosphere is intense and unique. I'll never get over this title.
Final Fantasy VII - Yes. This game changed everything for me, it got me hooked on Turn Based RPG's.
Grandia - The world and characters were phenomenal, i really got sucked into this title as a kid.

There's really too many to count actually, my childhood was built on that console.

Final Fantasy VII - When Aerith died.

I was kind of shocked to see that Aerith died just like that, and there were campaigns to bring her back, at least to keep alive in some way or another.

Although there were a lot of memorable games, one game that I can recall is Parasite Eve, where you'll have to beat the being that takes the form of your elder sister in the Chrysler Building. Also some of the scenes there remind me of Resident Evil.

I loved Grand Theft Auto 2 so much that I bought the Grand Theft Auto Complete Pack on Steam just to have the game connected to my Steam account! . I loved the fact that you had to balance your relationship with the three gangs in order to not start a gang war. In addition to that, one thing I really liked (but couldn't understand) was that the drivers pay you cash if you hit their cars. Can someone explain that?

I think Jet moto is probably one of my most memorable games(but I couldn't tell you why, I just think of it when I see PS1), Fighting Force, the Die Hard trilogy, Resident Evil, and of course... Metal Gear Solid. The game that was so good, when you finished you smoked a pack a day and called every Colonel.

I remembered playing Gran Turismo on my Playstion. It is one of the best racing games I ever played! The graphics is amazing and it looks like an actual live race. Awesome sound effects! It's the best fast speed game ever!

Wow, I totally forgot about Jet Moto. I used to play a lot more racing games for the PS1, for some reason. The games I played tended to be more arcade style than simulation. I played Jet Moto 2 a lot, but not necessarily the right way. It was just fun to mess around on the tracks, even when I was being lapped by everyone else.

Yeah, i do have to agree that Resident Evil was really incredible for the time it came out.
Imagine, a horror game that was actually spooky and all.
I also really liked the ending to Vagrant Story. It didn't hit me as much as when i replayed it years later and understood what really happened. Some heavy story that that game has.
