Most underrated game for the PS4?

HI All,

First off, I do not have the PS4 version but the PC version because Steam had it on sales for $30 bucks. My Rig is slightly faster than the PS4 but to be honest, the differences are not that much between the PC and PS4 version. I run it at 1920x1080p @ 60 hz and 60 + fps. This is almost identical to the PS4 specs. I play with an Xbox controller because it works so well with the PC where as I have not found a utility that works well for using the PS4 controller ont he PC and I intentionally bought a wired controller to guarantee no delay and not having to worry about the cable as I have a 15 ft cable but sit 7 - 10 feet from the TV I play on which is the same TV my PS4 is hooked up to.

First off, I never was a fan of the original 2D Wolfenstein or the 3d Wolfenstein only because the 3d version looked so bad that I felt like the 2D version was better than the first FPS.

I petty much stopped playing FPS after Half-Life. I played through the Doom Series, Quake Series, Duke Nukem, and other FPS and they stopped becoming fun to me. I did not care for the Killzone series at all and found the Halo series to be ok but nothing great.

However, Wolfenstein the New Order is the first FPS in over a decade that really caught my interest and it is just damn fun! This game has a combination of great production values, very good graphics, and a great storyline at least through the first ten hours.

I know IGN gave it a low score while some of the other publications I trust give it an extremely high score I personally feel this should be a 9 out of 10 based on what I have played so far. This game deserves a lot more attention as this is a great reboot with very good graphics, a great story, fantastic production values, and explores a lot of interesting aspects of an alternate Universe in which the Third Reich won WWII and conquered the world.

The gun play is fantastic (outside the dual weapon mode which I never use). It has very creative content with some of the technology invented by the Nazi's in this parallel Universe and the story has depth with characters that are deep instead of paper thing by the numbers character.

I realize liking a game is subjective and so far the best games for the PS4 have been Infamous 3 (Second Son) and Wachdogs. Neither one of these games lived up to their potential. However, they both still were solid games and Second Son is a great exclusive for the PS4.

Wolfenstein is much better than any of the Battlefield games and COD games IMO I don't understand how these generic FPS games continue to get high ratings when Wolfenstein blows away any other FPS for the PS4. ID has done their best job to date and I highly recommend at least renting this game if you think you may like it. I am shocked it has not gotten more attenti0on. I feel like it is overlooked.

I basically am writing this post for anyone of the fringe about buying this game. It is worth every Penny even if it cost me $60 IMO.

Well technically the game got pretty good reviews. I think most people may just not play it due to there not being any multiplayer.

I did like this game a lot. Surprised me actually. T'was my first Wolfenstein game too

I play games for the Single Player only. I do not even look at the multiplayer aspect of games. By the way, do you know how many hours the full single campaign is? I tend to take my time in games and get the most out of them. I am playing Wolfenstein on Hard Settings and I am looking for as many goodies as I can find. I also will probably do a second playthrough and make a different decision on which character lives since it changes certain aspects of the game.

Also, what do you rate the game on a 10 point scale. I am giving it a 9/10 right now with half of point deductions for the dual weapon mode being wonky and I also feel like they overuse the dogs in metal suits to try to surprise attack you. Other than that, I have no complaints. The having to push controller buttons does not bother me in the least to pick up items.

It was not my first Wolfenstein Game. I played the original 2D one and the original 3D one. This is the first Wolfenstein game since the 2d one that I actually enjoyed and found to be fun!. It has a great story, good characters, a great shooter, top notch visual scenes. I don't see what their is not to like at least as a single player game. I wish all games were this good. Of course the main thing is that this game is just tons of fun which is more than I can say for most games these days.

I would say 7.5/10
But I tend to be harsh when scoring so take that score as very good.

Having played thru it once already on Hard and working on the hardest difficulty, I'd give this game a 10/10. I had/have so much fun playing this game. I played thru both storylines with saving each character in the opening scene(get 2 different trophies). I loved the storyline, however, I didn't like the ending, although its not exactly shown so who knows where the future of this game lies. I hope they make a sequel. I'll definitely fork out another $60 to play it for sure!

Pretty harsh indeed, I wouldn't call a 7.5 as "very good". It's positive no doubt, but for that rating you should be able to name 10 better games in the same genre.
I'm not disputing the rating, just the fact that you call it "very good"

I never give out tens but I think a 7.5 is good and parts of the game rate at least an 8.0. I actually think that an 8.0 is high but I tend to be a very hard grader.

Well as I said,it's my personal rating,and for me that is a very good score.Dont let that put you off the game,it is good for sure but I like to leave some room for better games as they become available.

I am giving it a 9 for the first 7 hours personally. Of course a bad ending and a few bad missions can change the score but the first four hours were as much fun as I have had in a game in a long time. I am finally remembering why I used to like FPS. A solid story, depth, character development, and a great shooter. I still think they overdue it using the dogs for a puzzle all encased in metal but my score has not changed in the second 3-4 hours of playing it. The Last of us and Bioshock and the Uncharted were the only other games I I remember wanting to take my time going through and get as much enjoyment out of it as possible.

If any COD sequel gets a 9 then this should be a 11 out of 10. However, in a more realistic way, if Watchdogs is a 7.5 then this is a 9.5 roughly playing half way through. In my book, Bioshock Infinite was a solid 9.0, with TLOU being a 9.5. Of course I would only give GTA V a 7.5/10 but I personally think GTA is the most overrated series of games in history I usually like Saints Row better but four was just too stupid to be enjoyable.

Back on topic. This game is worth 60 bucks. I feel like I have already gotten my 30 bucks out of it now. I hope to have some time tonight to get in a couple more hours.

The thing about video games it that inn the early 80s, a cheap port of the arcade game Missile command was $50. $60 now for a game is much less than inflation for 30 -- 35 years. However, I honestly thing video games used to be way overpriced. You have to consider that the cost of cartridges contributed to the price.

I feel like you should get the whole game and the DLC for $60. I hate the $60 plus the season pass, plus the PS + or Xbox Gold paid services.

It bothers me that game companies actually include content on the BD that can only be opened if you pay extra for it.

Also, I do like some indie games but the whole bunch if retro looking games from mainly indie developers is just an excuse to make cheap games. Sony should be embarrassed with the number of 8 bit looking games that have been released and it is way too much money. I will run Mame on my computer if I want to run a bunch of old Retro games. I want new games myself that try to push graphics to make the games look and play as good as possible.

I think games should be rated in comparison to whatever else is available at the time, that's what it means to me.
To withhold better rating because of whatever future games *might* come out doesn't make sense to me.

It really isn't fair to compare ratings between single player games and multiplayer games. I agree with you that Wolfenstein is a fantastic game, but it shouldn't really be compared to games like COD because everyone knows it is all about multiplayer.

The rating of a game should be in the context of that gaming genre and I somewhat agree with Strykstar that games should also be rated in context to the time. Goldeneye for n64 would have been a 10/10 for me back in the day, but comparing it to new FPS games it would get thrashed.

I think you have to rate games as how good they are at the time they are released. Yes there will be better games once programmers figure out how to optimize games for the PS4/Xbone hardware but I would expect a game that gets a 9/10 in 2017 to be better than a game that got a 9/10 in 2014.

Reviews are so subjective anyways.

However, if we use your logic then no game should get above an 8 this generation because next generation the games will look so much better. I don't send where you can draw a line in the sand with that type of logic for rating games.

For eg Streets of Rage and MK1 on MegaDrive was awesome in the day but not as good now.Except for nostalgia value mostly.
And my overall score of 7.5/10 is exactly that.Its how 'I' liked the game personally.Its not a score in a magazine or website aimed at a general audience.

I just felt like this game did not get much good reviews and it was sort of overlooked by some review sites. On the other hands, there were some PC review sites that gave the game 10/10 or 100% scores. I think many of the console review sites have overlooked it expecting more mediocrity. ID may have to earn some credibility back with this franchise.

I do agree with you that this game may pick up on word of mouth. I bought it with the one day Steam sales for half price and once the price point is lowered on the consoles, this may become a much more popular game.
