Namco Bandai announces free-to-play Soulcalibur: Lost Swords

Oberon

, , The Enforcer, ,
Another hopefully cool free to play game 'Soul Calibur' will be on PS3.
Next to Tekken Revolution and Ridge Racer Driftopia (Driftopia? IS this on PSN store in all regions now? Must of missed that one) this Namco Bandai latest free to play.

Namco Bandai's latest free-to-play fighter coming to PS3.
Namco Bandai is working on a free-to-play version of its long-running fighting series Soul Calibur.

Tekken Revolution is pretty bad and too limited, Driftopia (got into the beta) has horrible controls to make you spend cash to buy better things, and for what i have heard, this will be single player only, no multiplayer. I don't think Free2Play games are the solution right now.

I hope this ends up being a good Soul Calibur. Hopefully they are trying to make some money to make a multiplatform Soul Calibur 6 with their profits. I feel like this is likely. They can test new fighting styles and mechanics and prepare for the next gen switch.

Sweet! I'm a fan of the Soul Calibur series (particularly the Gamecube one with Link), and having one free to play would be amazing.

Oh. Maybe I'm not so excited now.

Well the free2play games that I have experienced so far are rubbish. I am waiting for a free to play game that I like. Also most free2play games are online. Why can't they make a singleplayer free2play game that is actually fun to play? It can't be that hard! Wait it might be...

Am I the only one who doesn't give a damn about F2P games anymore? here are way too many in my opinion.

People care because hopefully a really good one will come out.

Free to Play has a lot of potential that isn't being utilized. It's the same reason people care about the Virtual Reality headsets and shit. If a really good one comes out, it'll be, well, really good.

Developers are willing to experiment with a lot of things lately. Free to play games are great but I think that they are more suited on mobile devices and the PC. I believe that it does not fit the consoles quite well just yet. But who am I to complain? These are free to play games for crying out loud! You have an option to spend real cash or not. Now that's marketing.

Hm, that's interesting. I haven't played a ton of F2P games, but I'll probably give this a try. I haven't played Tekken Revolution, but the reception to it wasn't great so hopefully this will be better. Worst case scenario, I just waste some time on a free game!

There is not sufficient information regarding this project for me to draw much of a conclusion other than that I'll simply keep up with its developments and see how it turns out. I'm not expecting too much, but I'll probably try it out for myself as some point anyway.

If it's free I'll definitely give it a try. But I'm assuming it will have certain restrictions like Tekken Revolution where it only allows you to play in a certain number of matches before a timed lockout kicks in. Or you could buy tokens in order to play. I likehow Namco is trying out the free to play, pay to win business model on more of their games. Still not sure how it's going to work in North America though.

I heard about Tekken Revolution a while back, but I haven't gotten around to trying it. For those who have, what makes it bad/good? Is it considerably worse than Tekken 6? In my opinion Tekken 5 is better than Tekken 6 in every way, and I was disappointed with 6. How does Revolution compare?

Well a free game is free, so I might as well try out. I've enjoyed the previous Soul Calibur games, and I hope this shouldn't be any different. Hopefully it will be worth the time, but I highly doubt it. Usually free games are not fun to play.

Tekken Revolution doesn't have all the Tekken characters in the roster and you have a limited amount of matches you can play in a row. It was online only but I dunno if they added Training Mode. It's only decent because it's free, but I would recommend trying to find Tekken Tag Tournament 2 cheap if you want to scratch a Tekken itch.

It's awesome. I remember the time before the release of the original Soul Calibur. everyone was so excited. And nowadays you get those games for free. On the other hand the publishers make 800 million bucks on one day. Crazy.
