need help with an issue

Hi i just had a question ive had issues before with my eject button not responding but it was only a couple times but lastnight wile playing a gamevthe system ejected the disc on its own after that it eoukd not take in a disc at all after reading some forumsi found a solution unplug the system hold the power button then wait gor a beep then plug it in that worked its working again but what is the cause of this is it hardware or software i really want to know
