"Never Buy A Console At Launch" Video

I came across this video entitled "Game Launch Rock" which speaks about why it isn't wise to buy a console at launch nowadays and wanted to discuss it with our community here. Here is the video:

The points made were basically that hardly any games exist yet for new consoles, the OS is often glitchy, and they will drop the price after a few months anyway. Points that many people probably know of, but still everyone seems intent at buying a console, or any gadget for that matter, right when it launches. I personally always wait a year or so for exactly these reasons, but I never really questioned why people who choose the opposite do it. What do you guys think of this? Are the points discussed in the video warranted, or is there anything that these people (including me) are missing?

I pretty much agree with all the points presented tbh. I mean, I'm not knocking anybody that decides to buy at launch, but personally I'll be holding back for at least six months to a year. I'll be good with my PS3 until then!

I don't know about a "few" months, but it won't take that long for the price to drop. I'm not interesting in buying consoles at launch, and I never have (and probably never will). Even with the purported 17 launch titles, there's really no incentive to have it that early aside from being able to say that you have it. I just don't think that's a good enough reason to drop that much money when I already have a perfectly good PS3 and Xbox 360.

I agree with his points. Launch days are usually one of the worst days to buy something techy due to unfixed bugs and such. Despite that, I won't be buying any of the next-gen consoles until I get my own job because my parents are not big fans of spending money to buy video games.

i actually wanted to buy a couple of each just to resell on ebay. I always saw people making money that way during previous generation launches and finally had enough money to do it myself. Something told me it wasnt going to be the same this time around, but i know im dead wrong. Im gonna cry as i watch all the money i could have made be made by others.

Never bought a console at launch, never will. I always wait for the prices to inevitably drop before buying them. The same will go for the PS4.

So, yeah I more of less agree with the video.

I'm one of those folks you speak of. I sold extra units of Xbox 360 and Wii the last generation. This generation I have 2 PS4s and 2 Xbox One reserved - for the longest time I was on the fence on which unit if any I would keep for myself. A few weeks ago I decided I would go with Sony and have since started reserving some of the software.

This is pretty much my approach, to be patient. The game selection will exponentially grow within time, and in that time it will hopefully become affordable to me.

I can see the appeal of getting it on launch day, but it's not appealing to me.

I have already paid off my PS4 and my reasoning is that it doesn't matter when I buy the console, I know which console I want so whether I buy it now or later isn't going to have much effect. Secondly I love Battlefield and know I'll play BF4 for well over 200 hours and I'd rather play it on a console that has 64 players and 60fps. And when more games are being made, well I don't need to buy the console because I'll already have it.

I agree with this a lot. The only console I ever got at launch was the 3DS. And like the video says, there weren't many games at first. And I kind of got burned when they dropped the price a few months after launch. Luckily Nintendo fixed this buy giving amb***adors 20 free virtual console games.

I never have bought a system on its release date. The glitch situation is something pretty significant to me. I could care less about the games I miss not having the system because in this new world they tend to release popular titles for the last system as well as the newest one.
