No PSN+ subscription required for Elder Scrolls Online

I'm thinking that I may end up getting this for my Mac, only because I can't imagine playing an MMO on a console.

You never played EverQuest Online Adventures/Frontiers on PS2? That ran very well at the time. DCUO runs great as well. Of course those two were probably simplified.

I've never played EQOA, only heard of it. I have played DCUO and it's okay for the most part. I want to see how they handle an MMO the scale of TESO.

EQOA was greatly simplified. It was slightly more simple than EQ1. However that shows that companies could find a way to dumb down MMOs for consoles or have a special pack that includes the keyboard and stuff. I know Sony dropped EQOA with the modem for PS2.

I think they'll handle it pretty well. I do see there being a hiccup on launch with the servers, but they'll bounce back. I don't think it'll a major hiccup either.

Unless a company has been doing online for a long time on a regular basis, they're going to stumble a bit when launching a new game with an online element. In this case, there will definitely be a stumble given that online play is the sole element.

I've just learned today that the monthly subscription is $15 a month. The game has to be bought for $60 and then we also have to pay $15 a month to play. That's not including the in-game shop that requires real money to purchase items. That's triple jeopardy, the added amount is ridiculous. Furthermore, a locked class that is only available when you purchase the Imperial Edition for $99. Sorry, no chance I'm ever going to consider now.

Having an in-game store where you buy exclusive stuff is some anime-style MMO stuff. I'm still getting it, but if they're going to do that they could honestly go F2P. Subscriptions basically allow for you to get all that stuff through grinding, farming, and questing without needing to do in-game shops with real money. Even though it's an ultra old example, but Sony's EQOA--the first MMORPG on a PlayStation--did it right, really. You bought the game ($59.99 at the time since it came with the modem), paid the subscription $9.99 a month, and that was it.

I tried Everquest for a hot second on the PS2, but didn't give it much of a chance. The Internet connection was terrible when I tried it and it was super laggy. It actually played smoothly though? I know it used to be super popular.

Speaking of stumble, it's Bethesda so be prepared that the game's going to get a ton of bugs and glitches. As far as I know, this is the first time they're going online right so it could be worse the first few months. Even if I am playing, I'll wait at least three months after release to see how it goes.

Take that Xbox! I definitely think that this is a win for Sony. Wonder why they are requiring XBL Gold subscriptions for Xbox users in order to play though? The article makes it sound like Bethesda wanted the only fee to be the monthly fee all around. I wonder if Microsoft made the decision to make it available only to gold members? Either way, yay Playstation! How many of you guys plan on playing this? Are you going to play on the PC/Mac or do you plan on playing on your PS4? Well looks like I picked up my PS4 at a good time then. Granted I also picked up a sub for PS+, but I'll get the game on PS4 just to make a statement lol

This is definitely another move from Playstation to one up Xbox. Which is great. This is the type of competition that we need between the two companies. It will only benefit the consumers and cause good changes to happen. Hopefully we see more stuff like this on both sides.
