Oh hai
Been awhile since I posted.. but I creep still
So I puchsed the Nyko Databank for PS4 last night (Bestbuy is sold out on their website, but luckily one store locally had two in stock so I ran down after work and sniped it). For those not familiar with the device, it lets you install Desktop (3.5 inch) hard drives into your PS4.
So the unit cost 49$ plus tax... and I picked up a 2 TB Western Digital hard drive for 99$ (keep in mind, this is in Canadian monopoly money). I was thinking of getting the 3 TB hard drive for 139, but after reading a lot of reviews online, as well as the info that comes with the unit, PS4 isn't rated for anything more than 2TB, else you will lose some functionality and you run the risk of slow load times (you will lose Sleep Mode, apparently).
It was surprising fast to install.. the entire process took less than 15 minutes (this includes installing the PS4 software).
I happened to be talking to a friend of mine in the US who said he happened to pickup a 2 TB laptop drive for PS4 yesterday for 99$.. So the Nyko Databank may not be cost effective in some cases (unless you want a 3-6TB drive in it I suppose for much cheaper). Unfortunately, up here the 1TB laptop drives are priced at 99$ or more, ugh.. And I wanted at least 2 TB.
So far running great. I did notice that the standard 500gb drive it comes with is only a 5400 (or is it 5200) RPM unit, while the desktop units are at 7200 rpm.
For those who have not heard of this, link is below.
