Off Topic Lounge

Hey,

So I noticed in the description of the off topic lounge that post count is turned off. Now I'm not one to really care about post count, after all its quality not quantity that counts in the end. However it does seem like the off topic lounge covers a wide variety of discussions that isn't 'spammy' and I therefore think it should have post count enabled. Now obviously 'Forum Games' shouldn't have post count because...let's face it...that is nothing but quick spam.

Plus if a topic is quite spammy, it can always be moved to 'Forum Games'.

What do you think of this?

Personally it doesnt bother me either way,but on the one hand I would like post count to be turned on everywhere for other reasons.

We may change that in the future. Spammers have that used that board in past to get around the link rules on the sitse which is why we changed it.

Ah right, I was just thinking because obviously legitimate non-spam type threads do get created that maybe it could have post count.

We may change that in the future. Spammers have that used that board in past to get around the link rules on the sitse which is why we changed it.

The problem is that the spammers just go elsewhere. We've had a number of spammers recently posting in other forums, spamming their 'Hey look at these great kitchens' nonsense.

Why is it needed anyway? What does having a high post count achieve?

I'm not being confrontational, just wondering why a higher number of post count matters to some people

I know spam is annoying but I don't think it would be that troublesome considering you have quite active moderators.

Better to be safer and spam free than just to have a higher post count tally I think.

Still,if it matters that much perhaps we could have it for a trail period of a week or so and see what happens.
Dunno,will see what the boss thinks of that.

It's not particularly about the high post count at all. Personally post count doesn't matter all that much. However it just makes sense. Of course you don't want to have post count in the forum games section. I get that, you could spam your way up. However for the off topic section it does make sense to have it on since you do have meaningful threads and people actually do make longer replies etc in that section than they do in some of the game related sections.

I once was a member of a Ps3 forum wherein post tally is enabled in their Off Topic section, everything in it was pure nonsense. Some where just putting in random articles from Google, moderators had to track down the forum posters and warn them. In the end they had to remove tally count from the Off Topic section.

And what is the big deal with post count if you don't mind me asking? Yeah it does look cool, something like a veterancy status? The badges here in this forum though are pretty cool.
