Online problems.....sorted hopefully....

Hi ALL,

I thought I would post this in case like me you thought you may be the only one having these problems...

I bought my PS4 on 4/1/2013 with PlaystationPlus and like most of you have been playing GHOSTS online...or maybe not. On a couple of occasions, whilst playing, my game would freeze and I could not get it going again. I would then exit the application and reload the game. I would be presented with a message from PSN saying there was an error encountered beginning with the prefix CE.... and I would send feedback via the application and using the on screen qwerty keyboard (better with a keypad if they decide to do one...). This has happened a few times and each time I have done the above, on one occasion I did this approximately 6 times in one online gaming session.

Then after the update to 1.60 the other day I got the following message when I exited an online game and tried to start a new one;

NOTICE PlaystationPlus is required to play online. Exit
Then I get the following message
This service is currently undergoing maintenance (E-820001F7) OK

Now this had me confused as a friend of mine was playing online at the same time and in the UK but it did not effect him? :confused:

I emailed Sony and got an email asking me to ring them as they required me to go through security in order to safeguard my privacy and to make sure they were speaking to the account holder.

I rang them today and spoke to very helpful customer support representative, who after going through security and getting the main details of my concerns, passed me to their hardware/software specialist to discuss further. I was advised that there may have been corrupt data and as I had been saving my progress online. This only compounded the fact that the corrupt data was also being uploaded and therefore, I would encounter the same problems in future. The hardware/software specialist advised me to 'initalise' my system, which would take approximately 2 hours as it would delete everything off my hard drive and then re-install my software. Hopefully the corrupt data would also be deleted and a fresh install would replace it. He went on to say that if I encountered the problem again, very unlikely, he would make case notes on my original enquiry and I should call back to advise them accordingly.

I was very impressed with his knowledge and he put most of my fears to rest. I can only say if I had known the above sooner I would have done this and saved myself a little time and trouble to boot. :p

He asked me if there was anything else I would like to ask/know and I asked the following;

1. Will there be an attachment keypad for the controller - pain to navigate the onscreen one.

2. I play GHOSTS a lot and have noticed that the thumb-sticks are 'wearing away' but I have taken out insurance with GAME so if they get too bad I can replace them for FREE. I did say that I found the slightly domed thumb-sticks did not help with extended gameplay as my hands would get sweaty and would 'slip' off when trying to use the 'melee' attack. I pointed out that the Xbox One thumb-sticks' were very nice and had a concave depression with ridges to stop the above. Unfortunately. I have very large hands and although the DS4 is better than the 'old' controllers I still have the big hands!

3. Avatars and wallpapers, especially if we can customise them as the offering currently available is limited. I note that the PS3 has quite a few for sale online and my cousins in Australia have bought some awesome ones for their PS3. Background wallpapers would be a 'change of scene' and user specific.

He said he would pass this up the line and that my feedback was valued by SONY.

I am now waiting for my PS4 to finish 'initialising' whilst I post this. :o

Hope this helps anyone who has encountered the above as you are not alone. Sharing our experiences helps to bring focus to making a better system, online/user experience.

Thanks for reading.

ATVB.

I don't have a PS4 yet, but I am bookmarking this post as I have also heard others in Gamestop complaining about certain issues with PS4. I want to see what the final resolution to these issues are so that when I do get one, I have everything I need. Sorry to use you as a guinea pig, but I'd rather go into this deal knowing what I am getting myself into rather than going in blind.

I have just come back from GAME with a brand new replacement console as agreed by SONY. My previous console will be going to SONY to investigate the problems I was experiencing. I now have to format my 1TB Hybrid Drive as it is linked to my previous console. Unfortunately, I am having trouble locating software for my Mac to format the drive as it is over 32GB...!!

Does anyone know of any free software that will enable me to do this..??

Thanks,

David.

Why don't you just do it with the new PS4? There are options that let you choose what to do. I think just re-initialize your harddrive with the OS software will do the job. There's no need to format the hdd with your computer.

I have tried downloading the latest update (1.60) and tried to initialise the PS4 but keep getting the message 'the update file cannot be used'....

I have downloaded the update from the Sony website but am wondering if there is another update, as perviously there were two and if you downloaded the wrong one you got this message......???

Hi ALL!!

Finally got my PS4 to initialise and accept the Hard Drive and is now in the process of initialising the PS4... (my mistake!!!) I was inserting the USB drive after I turned on the PS4 (holding down the power button for 7 seconds and hearing the second beep) instead of inserting the USB and then holding down the power button for 7 seconds to turn the console on...LOL

It took me most of yesterday and this morning to finally get here BUT was well worth it as you only learn from your mistakes!!! Even if it was a schoolboy error!!!

Thanks to all who commented above for their support.

Let the gaming commence...!!!

David.
