Painting your PS3?

Can you paint your PS3? Obviously you would want a paint that wouldn't peel and looks like it is part of the design as well. Furthermore, wouldn't it make the PS3 easier to overheat with the paint on the PS3? If I could do this with paint that looks good once it has applied I would do it. Has anyone here done it?

I don't think it's a good idea and I wouldn't recommend it. I never tried it before, but it's obvious that the paint won't last longer on the Playstation and it will also cause heat problems. Besides all this, if you're willing to paint it yourself, then trust me you won't get it right. How are you planning on doing it? You need an aerograph and a good hand for good results, buy a customized Playstation 3 instead.

You can't just paint it with regular paint, you need a special one to do it, so it doesn't ruin the plastic of the shell and also doesn't ruin the heating handling of the console. Best advice is to get it from someone who knows how to do it, or you are just going to end up with a broken console.

I don't paint it because that would take a lot of time. I don't have faith in my ps3 lasting any longer than a couple years so that is even more incentive to not paint it. I do have a lot of stickers on my consoles though. It adds a special pizaaz to them. I also put stickers on my laptops. I never re-sell computers so I don't care about it reducing the value for any potential future buyer.

I'd stay away from painting it as well. Honestly, it's too much of a hassle and not worth the time. It will be cool and all the first two weeks, but you won't even care later on. I remember I wanted a different color Xbox so bad back then and when I got it I didn't really care anymore. As long as it serves it purpose and allows you to play your games, all will be well.

Well, I remember painting my original Xbox back in the day. However that console was easy to take apart and put together. If you paint your PS3 you are going to want to be smart about it, obviously. I would stray from taking it apart as not to void the warranty. I would also make sure to cover all cracks and creases with masking or painter's tape, provided you have either available. There is a risk, but the choice is up to you. I would personally just put stickers on it.

It could void the warranty, that is true. I've seen painted consoles for sale. That's the only reason to do it, in my opinion. It would be to find suckers who will pay for a console that looks different. Like the original poster said, the paint could peel off easily, especially if you transport the console to and from your friends houses.

Yeah, I think using stickers is the best way to go if you want to personalize the PS3 a little.
