Playing PS1 & PS2 Games On PC

Has anyone here had any experience with playing PS1 and PS2 games on a PC? I'm not very familiar with PC gaming nor assembling, so I thought I'd ask you guys if you think this would be a worthy alternative to actually buying second hand versions of PS1 & PS2 and having to hunt for games on top of that. I'm assuming it would be more convenient to just build a good PC and downloading everything on there. Would the average CPU nowadays costing under $500 be enough to handle such a thing? Any additional comments or tips?

The average PC could play PS1 games quite well. I'm actually using an Asus Eee PC shell series netbook to emulate PS1 games. You could use the ePSXe emulator or PSXseven. They are the most popular PS1 emulators. I'm not that sure about the PS2 though as I have not yet tried emulating its games on the PC yet. My PS2 is still good so if I want to play some PS2 games, I'd just bring out the good ol PS2.

PS1? That usually runs on toasters.
PS2? You better have a damn cannon, because the emulation is not refined as the PS1.

Aside from that, they both run pretty good if you have a decent modern computer.
