Playstation 1 memories!

Good day, gamers!

We all have good memories with our own Playstation 1 consoles. We might remember having that awesome time playing your favorite video game, spending countless amount of hours trying to beat it. Some of you might remember the great moments of trying to outwit your best friend in a fighting game. These are the types of memories that makes the PS1 special.

As far as I can remember, I can recall a time where I got so addicted to Azure Dream that I even hated going to Church. I wanted to finish the game so bad. Thankfully, I was able to get over that rebellious phase.

In Wild Arms, I didn't know about the item cheats at that time, and I was having a problem with beating the Abyss's boss Ragu Ragla. Every time he casts the Volcanic Bomb, I'm always history. The worst thing about it is that I even fail to save the game at the point prior to beating this boss. But this is nothing compared to the Emerald Weapon from FFVII which almost took me forever to beat the guy.

I loved playing Twisted Metal with my buddies. It was a good way to take some aggression out and I believe that title is one of the best games for it. Playing each character to completion was a pretty fun experience too, seeing as all of them were very interesting and unique. Another fond memory of mine was staying up late to play FF as Squal. I never cared much for the story, but I remember being amazed with the graphics at the time, and if I remember it correctly, it was a very big thing back then.

I played a lot of obscure games on the PS1. It's probably because my dad used to let me rent games from the video store and, having no concept of good and bad games, I usually went games that had interesting covers. Sometimes it would pay off, but that kind of behavior wouldn't fly nowadays since a lot of really bad games have cool covers. That said, some of my fondest video game memories are of renting and trying out new games for my PS1.

My favorite PS1 moment is when I got the mobile screen for the mini-ps1. I could finally play my PS1 in my parents car on those cross country summer roadtrips. It was awesome, granted the glare was atrocious but that was nothing a blanket over my head couldn't solve.

A mobile Playstation 1?! How come my parents nor friends told me about this? That sounds so awesome! If only I knew that such product existed before, then I wouldn't have tantrums due to the fact that I wasn't able to play Azure Dreams for a day!

So many fond memories of the PS1 and getting stuck into many hours of gaming. I loved GTA so so much as well as Gran Turismo, both of these were the most addicting games for me because I really like simulation and open world games like this. I remember spending many hours completing Tekken too, that was such an awesome game and I still remember all of the characters and their fighting style.

I recalled spending hours trying to breed a Gold Chocobo on Final Fantasy 7. My friend and I had a competition to breed the Gold Chocobo in record time, so we stayed up for hours to try and get one.

I ended up losing the contest as I was too tired to carry on. While it was bad for the body, the fun memories were more than enough to compensate for the lack of sleep. I still cherish that fun time I had!

They got it for me because I placed second in my class when I was in first year high school. When we took the console home, I was trembling as I set it up and tried out the games that we have bought. It was pure bliss.

HAHAH, that's cool! I share the same story with you. I was a first grader that time and I was the top 1 in our class. My parents brought me to this game shop and they told me to pick five PS1 games of my liking. I picked five, but I wondered where I would be playing these since I didn't have a PS1 console. As we arrived home, I hurried to the DVD player and I tried to play the game on the DVD. My parents laughed so hard when they saw me desperately trying to play the game. They immediately told me that the console was waiting in my room. :") Thanks mom and dad.

I remembered playing Tekken 3. It is one of the best games I have ever played on the PlayStation. The graphics and sound effects is one of the best in any fighting games. PlayStation, it does bring back memories!

Haha! I can't believe that you actually tried to run the game on your DVD player. At least, the music could have played though especially if that game was Twisted Metal or Gran Turismo which actually had music tracks saved on the CD. A great surprise by your parents nonetheless!

4 discs for one game? Is this some sort of sorcery where the game is infinite?

I never played the PS1. With two brothers, they were the ones who always played it. But I remember that I loved watching them play Spyro. I remember trying to play the console one morning. I made sure to wake up extremely early, and when I turned everything on, the volume was so high that they could hear it from the other side of the house. They both ran over and took control. Apparently, that was their trap for me to not play it. Ahh, such good memories. ;P

Yes, I also remember being amazed by the opening cinema of Final Fantasy VIII. The music was haunting and the CG cinematics were just plain beautiful. When I was able to finally control the main character Squall, I was equally amazed. The world was so alive and full of activity. It was pure gaming bliss.

On a more technical note, I remember how impressed I was when I found out that the PS1 could play CDs. Nowadays that doesn't seem like a big deal but this was back when CDs were relatively high-tech. There wasn't really any practical reason to play them on the PS1, but at least there was that option.

Lol. I was pretty amazed by it too. I loved the visualizer at the time. Great for parties. I used it once when my friends were at our house. We ended up playing games instead. Still, it was a great feature to have for the console.

Spyro the Dragon (the very first one came out in September, 1998) no doubt. I love that game. It was my very first game ever for the PlayStation and any console. I got a PlayStation in early-mid 1999 and I still have and play it to this day! It still works like it came out of the box!

Playing Final Fantasy for the first time was my biggest memory of PSX. My brother and I had binged on RPGs on SNES, Gameboy, emulators so when we got PSX and FFVII it was glorious. Two moments from FF was beating Sephiroth a second time so my brother could see it--I beat him earlier when my brother was at school--and watching him beat FFVIII. Then I beat FFIX. The thing was, when you saw someone else beat a FF, there was really no reason for you to bother continuing. It was better when we each got our own consoles.

Other memories: Official PlayStation Magazine's DEMO DISCS! Playing PSX for the first time over my friend's house (he had Tomb Raider and I was mildly impressed) and the commercials for games back in the day. Toonami, Cartoon Network, and Saturday morning cartoons were deadly important for game advertising back in the day. Games made up like 1/4 of those blocks' advertising with the rest being action figures, Capri Sun, Sunny D, Lunchables/Hot Pockets, and fast food.

It was always the Crash Bandicot GTA. From where I'm from, no one got used to playing games when growing up alone because you have to always go to arcades to play. This and also the fact that gaming system were mostly arcade machines, no one had room or time to ask their parents to buy them one. We were all very competitive, because going to an arcade you knew you weren't going to play alone.

When the playstation was released and arcade started phasing out, those who had People abroad quickly grab the chance to buy, played it for a while and them opened a gaming center. It was either the Crash GTA or Pro evolution soccer, they were out there to make money so they never allowed one player games.
