Playstation Vita "Slim" (PCH-2000)

So yesterday a new model for the PSVita was announced on the Sony Pre-TGS conference.

This one is exactly like the old model, but 20% lighter, battery is now up to 6 hours and, the biggest change, is that instead of a OLED screen, we going to get a LCD screen. This means that this model will probably drop some more in the price, which will let more people get into the console.

What do you guys think?

Well, this model sounds pretty decent. Sure, LCD isn't as good as OLED, but LCD is very good still so it's not gonna look like crap or anything like that. The battery life lasts approximately one hour more, according to their specs, which is the one thing that makes me interested. Still, nothing that makes me want to sell my 1000 for this 2000 (thankfully).

I do hope that it's cheaper in price, instead of just using LCD so it's cheaper for Sony to manufacture...

There seem to be a few downsides (in my opinion). The new screen just wont look as good as the OLED. LCD has come a long way but there just isn't any way it will compare. Also by making it "thinner and lighter" those of us with bigger hands will have even more of a problem finding a comfortable way to grip the system. You can see from the shots that the controls have been "pushed" slightly out. Anyone who's played the new Killzone knows it takes a little time to get used to the thumb sticks. I'm very much in love with my Vita but the new model, with the exception of a little extra battery life, almost seems like a downgrade. Guess we'll just have to wait and see when we get out mitts on it.

Most light than thinner, the only thinner it got was around the edges, and the LCD is good for people who want a more reliable thing (OLED is pretty, but it's too fragile for something portable) for a lower and more accessible price. It's not the PSP 2000, so you can trade your old one, but it's definitely a good thing to get the PSVita rolling faster.

I would definitely get this ps vita instead, I was going to get the old one but I decided to go all in and get the latest one coming out.

I saw it but I don't really care because no matter what ps vita is a waste of time. Its can live up to its predecessor the psp.

Well, it is a cheaper screen solution, but i think that the photo doesn't help the situation. You should have posted the Uncharted comparison too, where the colors are more or less the same. I do know that the colors are not that vibrant, but it's a cheaper version, got to give them that.

While this is a nice model...for now, the benefits aren't worth upgrading from my current one. The LCD screen doesn't look bad and the inclusion of 1 GB or Memory is nice, but I don't think it warrants an upgrade for me.

Also, they removed the mystery port from the top of the Vita with this model. Looks like we may never realize what that port was for.

I already own a vita and wouldn't go buy a next one because its slimmer or have better battery life.

Yeah, they just didn't change enough for them to even warrant making a new one. They should have waited a year and added some more features or something, this doesn't make much sense. Looks desperate to me.

Hmm, based on the pictures posted, the original seems to look better. But that's if you're comparing them side by side. If you're just looking at the 2000 model, then I think hardly anyone would complain. Besides, if it would lead to a much cheaper PS Vita, then it's a good thing.

At first, I thought it would be a good idea to have a slimmer Vita. But after seeing that screenshot of the comparison, I don't think it will go over well. Why would they change the screen? Take out a few features, sure, but don't make games look worse on the console. Nintendo seems to have it down when it comes to that. Games always look the same or better o upgrades to Nintendo handhelds.

Well it seems that the vita is the way to go if your going to buy a new portable PlayStation device.
Looking from all those picture on the internet, it seems that going bigger really isn't the answer for the vita which they sacrifice other things as well.
Being slimmer doesn't really make a difference to me anyways so I don't see why your would get the 2000.

Is it even necessary? The VITA is a good design already and seems pretty handy...

Though sony does a "Slim" version of every playstation so why not this. Which makes me wonder, what will the PS4 slim look like?

Yes, if you look really closely you will notice the difference, but hey, it's more reliable hardware-wise.

The original's design and screen looks a lot better, in my opinion, and I never even liked that particular design to begin with. However, I did read somewhere that OLED screens have a limited lifespan, 5 or so years if I'm not mistaken. Anybody know if there's truth in this, and if so, this would mean that LCD would be the smarter option, right?

No point buying it, there's not much to do on a vita anyway. I regret buying it.
