I'm connecting this device, get prompted to enter the 6 digit number on the ps4 screen into the app on my ipad, but the app wants an 8 digit number and so it's impossible to connect. Any ideas. Thanks

Problem connecting ipad to ps4

I don't think you can actually pair via blue tooth.
That being said, if you download the PSN App on your ipad (it is found under iPhone apps), you can set it up through the internet like that (if you have an iphone you can do it that way too).
It's easy
1) Download the App and log in
2) Once logged in, click on 'Connect to PS4'
3) On your PS4, go to 'Settings' then 'Connect PSN App' (or something to that effect)
At this point a code will show up on your screen that you need to enter on your mobile device. And voila, connected.
Just tested it out now, works great. Lots of good functionality on it too including chat, etc.. Have not yet pressed the power button

I've heard of the same problem and solution. Try the app and let us know how it works for you so other people can benefit from this solution. It should work fine since it's designed for the Playstation!
