PS Games That Don't Hold Up To Nostalgia

Any obsolete fighter like Tekken 1-4 doesn't hold up to newer iterations. Hell, even Tekken 6 is obsolete already...

The games that I find don't hold up very well are the early 3d titles. Yes, even Final Fantasy 7 fits into that category. Luckily a lot of the game isn't in full 3d, and they did a good job with it. The best example would be Virtua Fighter for the Sega Saturn. That game looks absolutely terrible.

I felt the same way away about Driver 2. I use to have loads of fun playing that game, now every time I go back to play it the game feels so empty. I can't see why I loved that game so much as a kid.

The first game that comes to mind is Vagrant Story. Wow has it aged poorly.

It's the kinda game that was fairly revolutionary for its but just doesn't age well at all.

Resident Evil, indeed, is a decent example that I did discuss before. The thing which I find rather horrific about the early games is the cutscenes. Poor voice acting and reactions from the characters. If it wasn’t out of sync, the body movements (arms in particular) were exaggerated! I must admit, myself and my best friend used to joke about this when the game wasn’t that old, but we glossed over that because we loved the series…!

I used to adore Driver 2 when it was new. I lost many hours simply driving around in free-roam, especially going around that large highway that used to eventually loop itself around the city. I also used to follow various vehicles on their own set paths...! I must have had some serious downtime when I was a kid...!

Again though, it's not a game I've played for many years but looking back at screenshots of it now, it does look fairly horrific - and generally I'm not one to consider graphics an important part of gaming enjoyment...

I agree with you Spiral, when the graphics improve and the characters then the older games just lose their luster. Occasionally I will prefer an older game but generally I like the newer version.
