PS Games With The Best Soundtracks & Musical Scores

I never really pay attention to the soundtrack and musical scores, honestly, unless they are made totally obvious like in racing games or a game like GTA where you would have control over the car radio every time you get into a vehicle. Recently, I looked up a video on Final Fantasy VIII and hearing the soundtrack kind of snapped me back to the past for a split second, although at the time, like I said, I didn't really notice how good the music was.

Which PS games do you think have a particularly good soundtrack and musical score?

I'd say Final Fantasy VIII has the most memorable song on the PS1. Eyes On Me is such a great song and I always feel nostalgic whenever I hear it. Memories of Life for FF IX is also great but does not transcend that of Eyes On Me. Chrono Cross also has pretty good in-game music as well as Xenogears. Metal Gear Solid on the other hand could be commended for best use of sound.

I would say Twisted Metal IV. Because it was really the only game that made me download its soundtrack. I even discovered a good band because of that game. Some bgm of Tales of Eternia are good too. I guess my favorite would be the music from Nereid's Labyrinth. I remember looking it up again because I heard an interlude from Drop Dead Georgous that reminded me of it.

Twisted Metal games did have good soundtracks. Even though I didn't particularly like the songs themselves, they fit the game's atmosphere really well. The one that comes to mind, and which a lot of people mention in these discussions, is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (2, in particular). I really enjoyed the soundtracks, even though (like Twisted Metal) I didn't really enjoy the songs on their own. In later games, there were a lot of great songs that fit the scenarios really well and made the game more exciting. Good music in games can be very powerful when done right.

For me it would have to be the Kingdom Hearts series, specifically Kingdom Hearts 2. Yoko Shimomura is definitely one of, if not the best video game composers alive right now and she always brings her A game. Along with that, The theme song by Utada Hikaru is one of my favorite songs period. I love the fact that the song was written specifically for the game, just like the previous song for the first game was written as well.

I like a lot of music in games, but there is one bit of music in particular that gives me chills of awesomeness every time:

They definitely put a lot of effort into the Final Fantasy games' music. One-Winged Angel is one of the best video game songs I've ever heard, if not one of the best instrumentals I've heard period. Promised Land was also an excellent vocal piece that sends chills down my spine. Here's the video:

I can't remember if it was only in the movie or if it was adapted from a song in the original game, but it's still a great piece. We almost did it in my choir class but my teacher decided against it, unfortunately.
