PS PLUS Queries

Hi guys, haven't received my PS4 yet, should be getting it anytime now. Coming from a 360, I do not know much about PSN, so just had a few questions.

Firstly, how does the whole PS plus region thing work? I live in India and am getting an imported console (probably an american or european one) and when i make my PSN id, does it make a difference what location i put in?

Second - how does the ps plus card thing work? So if i look on ebay USA or elsewhere i get cards for like 50 bucks for the year, and it costs upto 90$ here locally, so can I just buy one from abroad and use it here? Also, how do digital copies of games work? Im getting a free knack download code with my PS4, do I need to have some specific location to download it?

So as you can see I'm very confused with this whole region thing so if someone can give me some clarity it would be much appreciated :)

Hey :), I'll try my best to answer your questions for you.

So when making an account on PSN the region of the account doesn't have to match the console region, however the region of the account will determine which store cards you can use. For example a US PSN id can only redeem US store cards and plus subscriptions. Same applies in Europe, you can only redeem store cards made for the country your PSN id region is set to, ie Irish cards for accounts set to Ireland and UK cards for accounts set to the UK. I hope I explained that well enough.

I think I pretty much covered your second question, as long as you buy the card from a trustworthy source and it matches the region of your account it will work.

And finally your game download code follows the same rules, you can only redeem the code for knack in the region the code was made for.

Sorry if I have just confused you more, happy to answer any questions you have.

Hey motivated (haha love the name!)

Thanks for that, very nicely explained! Okay so i got the PSN thing, so then my follow up question is, what exactly is the consequence of choosing a region in the first place? I mean, what parts of your PS4 experience (both on and offline) are actually affected by the region i choose? Cause it would seem to me then I would just choose whichever region I can get the cheapest PS PLUS card for right? (which would probably be american?) Or is there something I'm missing?

Also, with respect to the game downloads, what exactly did you mean by 'you can redeem the code for knack in the region code was made for'? Are you referring to the PS PLUS ID or are you referring to the actual console? So I would be getting a console which is the knack launch bundle (with the camera and the download code for knack). Does that mean I would have to register my PSN ID in the same region the code was meant for else my game code actually goes waste?

Sorry if the questions seem daft, just really confused about this ;)

The main consequence would be what store you have access to. So a US account would only have access to the US store.
I'm not sure if any game servers are region specific (i.e. US gamers connecting to a US server and EU players connecting to an EU server) but it could be worth looking into.

I'm referring to the region your ID is set to :). Your Knack code will only be accepted in the store that the code was made for. So if the bundle you get is from the US then you'd need a US account to redeem the game.
To be honest though don't let your Knack download be the reason you pick a region, you can always make another PSN ID just for knack if the code is incompatible with the region your plus account is set to. You don't need plus to download games and you can have different accounts set to different regions on one console.
