Sony CEO Kaz Hirai says the company is committed to keeping the PlayStation 4 directed toward gamers.

"The most important thing we need to make sure we do, at least initially, is that we all agree and understand that the PS4 is a great video game console that appeals to video gamers," said Hirai. "If we miss that part than I don’t think we get the initial establishment of the console."

"We take a look at this first and foremost as a game console," said Hirai. "We don’t want to end there. That’s an area we will obviously reveal and talk about in the coming months."

Great news to me and I'm sure to a lot of people here too.

I am glad to see this statement actually, it seems to be in direct response to Xbox too - because of course their reveal let a lot of gamers down by showing how it's more of a media system. I am glad Sony have stuck to what they know best and concentrated on the primary thing a gaming console should be used for, playing games!

Awesome. I really think it's better to focus on one aspect as opposed to focus on 10 different ones like the Xbox is doing right now. More focus on games means better games, and more games. Always nice to have.

I am so glad to hear that quote. With the release of Xbox One is was very obvious that Microsoft had forgotten it was a games console
and was just thinking about how much money they could make. It's nice to see that Sony haven't lost sight of this with the PS4 and
keep loyal to their fans. Although we have yet to see what it looks like and how it works I'm sure Sony will have done a fantastic job.
I can't wait to find out more about the console and the hardware, I'm very curious to how it looks.

This could be one of the best things that Sony can do right now considering Microsoft just shot themselves in the face with their Xbox One reveal. That is the position that Microsoft took with the Xbox 360 and Sony noticed because of sales and things of that nature so its not really a surprise that they went back to the drawing board to see how they can reclaim top spot as the "gamer's" console.

Just this statement is enough to make me want to buy a PS4 over an Xbox One. They know that the PS4 is a console, so they always focus on what they should, which is the games!

It's good to know that even if they have been making a lot of mistakes here and there in the recent past, they at least still have their finger on the pulse of gamers. That statement just might have been the final nail in the coffin that will cement them with console gamers and if not, at least reinforce the trust/bond they have with them. I also like that they chose to say this in particular, because it's kind of like putting salt on the wound of MS, but I do realize that it's probably just banter. We'll never know the real deal until E3.

Wow that is quite a slap in the face for Microsoft and excellent PR for Sony.
I for one can't wait till E3 just to see what this next generation machine will be capable of doing.
The money is starting to burn a hole in my pocket waiting to spend it on a PS4.
