PS4 PlayStation Plus will get free triple-A games later this year, insider claims

PlayStation 4′s free PS Plus offerings have consisted of indie titles so far, and according to one insider, Sony has told him that triple-a games will be entering the Instant Game Collection’s rotation later this year.

It comes from an alleged conversation between industry insider Ahsan Rasheed and Sony. It’s worth noting he has a solid track record for being right, but do take these tweets as rumour and nothing more:

Even if it's just a rumour, AAA games coming to PS4 was always going to become a given at some point in the next year. I imagine the first AAA game to be released will be Knack.. but IMO any free game a month is a bonus, even though they are just Indie titles at the moment, they're far better than March's offering for Games with Gold for 360 owners.

We all knew it was only a matter of time and while it may only be speculation I am confident in the future os PS+ on PS4. Now if only MSFT would follow the example so that my XB1 wasn't so dead.

I like that someone in Sony told him it's the typical Sony cycle. That's been the cycle going on 20 years with PlayStation. That said, this is very good news.

I'm beginning to think a lot people who get insider news/write for gaming sites started playing either at the start of PS3 and have forgotten that stretch before new games, started playing in the middle of PS3's run, or have always played in the middle of a console's run when there was a good amount of games out.

That thought about insiders have bounced around in my head every now and then. With social media and more sites that follow news now and days, people have a more instantaneous line to developers and publishers and can ask about games when they get impatient. Back then you just waited and you had games that would last you a little longer and had full games (as opposed to occasional full games and guaranteed DLC).

The wait could be terrible back then. Developers were like "We'll get back to you on that" or "Expect it next year." They didn't say when and they said expect it, not so much that it would hit next. In the case of EA's sports titles you could expect them like clockwork and magazines were usually spot on with release dates since EA has usually been consistent with those.

Now you bring up The Sims 4 or Sim City, things can get vague.

I don't remember the wait being all that bad because you just knew it was coming out X year or X season of this year and you waited. It's not like you could talk with the developer, director, publisher regularly or anything. You could send a letter, but that was about it.

The wait for games didn't become an issue until towards the end of PS2's run I feel. The wait was always something when a new console was announced, but with the games it really depended on the title and in those days most had to come through Japan first.

I wouldn't say he's a late day gamer, just impatient. There's gamers who have been playing for 20-30+ years who have become more impatient about game releases when they started playing in a period where you just had to wait, there was a large trench between gamers and the developmental process, and if the game didn't deliver or was buggy/glitchy you just dealt with it.
