PS4 System Update 2.00 Details revealed!

Just found this on Playstation Australia. Check out what's coming our way in the next PS4 system software update:

USB Music Player: PS4 owners will be able to play their own music in the background while playing a game using USB Music Player*. After inserting a USB stick loaded with music into the system, a new option for USB Music Player will appear. Supported filename extensions include MP3, MP4, M4A, and 3GP.

Change colours: PS4 owners can change the background of the home screen from light blue to one of seven new colors: gold, blue, red, green, purple, pink, and grey.

Enhancements to live broadcasting: Masamune brings a variety of improvements to live broadcasting on PS4. In the Live From PlayStation app, PS4 owners can now select a Featured channel, which includes official broadcasts from PlayStation, broadcasts from people on a players friend list, and any game channel that the player has followed. Additionally, Live From PlayStation now has filters for searching broadcasts on a specific game, as well as support for archived broadcasts.

Friend finder: PS4 will now suggest players you may know, recommending close friends of your close friends.

Content Area and Library: PS4′s Content Area, which shows the latest games and apps a PS4 owner has used, has been redesigned to help make it easier to quickly find and access content. It now shows 15 of a player’s most used apps or games, and additional items will be added to a player’s Library. The Library on PS4 has improved filter and sort functions to help organise contented by type (game / app / TV & video), name (a – z or z – a), recently used, or install date.

Enhanced voice commands: The ability to control PS4 using voice has been improved. Players can now say ‘PlayStation’ to begin commands, and ‘All Commands,’ to see a list of all voice command options available. New voice commands were added for live broadcasting, including “Start broadcast,” “End broadcast,” and “Find face.”

Add to library: The monthly free PlayStation Plus games will have an ‘Add to Library’ button in the PlayStation Store. This button will add a game to a PS4 owner’s library without downloading it – saving space on their hard drive.

Also coming is Share Play, which if anybody remembers was a big feature that was first mentioned when the PS4 was revealed:

The best way to think about Share Play is like a “virtual sofa”. PlayStation 4 will create an online local co-op experience by allowing you to invite a friend to join your game—even when they don’t own a copy of it. With this first-of-its-kind feature, you’ll be able to play games with a friend just as if you were together in the same room. Let’s say that with games… you’ll be able to invite your friend online to play as part of your Club in DRIVECLUB.

With Share Play, you can even jump into a game to assist a friend. For example, if there is part of a game that you can’t quite finish, you can invite a friend to take over your controls. Like handing over the controller to a friend on your couch, your screen will be shared as your friend gets through the part of the game that has been giving you trouble—can’t get past that part in The Last of Us: Remastered when you’re hanging upside down? Get a little help.

And last but not least - a dedicated app support for YouTube!

Then yep, they're coming. But if you mean "make your own" kind of themes, I don't think so.

I saw this yesterday too on some website when i was looking up if PS4 is ever gonna let you watch the movies on your PC on your PS4 like PS3 does. So far nothing on that subject, but I cant wait till this update comes along. I'm looking forward to the changing themes and being able to play your own music from a flash drive while playing games. Also they have not revealed the exact date its coming it just said Fall 2014.

Sounds like a great update. Really looking forward to it. I do expect the typical update problems with PSN thought unfortunately.

Regardless, this update makes me a very happy camper. The UI on the PS4 is kind of... well, it is pretty bad. As such any updates to it are an improvement.

Haha. I was just about to post that. We may not get our dynamic themes but its nice to know we can change it to one of 7 standard colors

I like the music feature. Was something that was definitely absent in PS3. Though I won't use it for any of my single player games, not a bad feature to have when playing online multiplayer games.

Totally agree. It feels like they left a lot out....for some reason. Even basic features like changing the theme or color. It really can't be that hard to include. Guess they shifted attention and focus to something else during development and left the more "trivial" software stuff for later software updates.

I must say the one thing I forgot about that I'm excited to see back is the share play. Though what are the specifics? Does a game have to support it? Can a friend of mine just start playing Destiny with me? That quote posted was a little vague.

This I agree with. We need this. It baffles me how this slipped their minds.

Maybe they decided to axe the friends online thing when they increased the friends list limit to 2000 because you'd be getting too many notifications on screen?

Yeah but do people really get up to 2000 friends? I think I have maybe 80? But I agree. The notification would be nice. It gets a little tiring everytime I play Destiny and I have to stop what I'm doing to look at my friends list to see if a buddy is online.

I doubt that,I mean they could have a set up option where you could choose to get notifications for that,just like when one of your friends goes into a party chat. We have a notification pop up for that (which I turned off btw) so we should defo have the friends signed into PSN notification.

I agree its needed but those were just my thoughts on why they left it out.

We do need it.
