PS4... upgrade games as well?

If you catch up with the Xbox One news and whatnot, they have announced about a week ago that you are able to upgrade games if you have a game that will be coming to the Xbox One. Here is a little more descriptive rundown and clarification. You can also read the article if you don't understand my horrible writing. Anyways, Sony is copying Microsoft's shoes, and you are able to upgrade select games on the PS4. Not sure if you can upgrade other games but these are the ones that were mentioned during Gamescom.

Today at Sony's Gamescom 2013 press conference, Sony announced that gamers that buy Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed IV, Call of Duty: Ghosts, or Watch Dogs on Playstation 3 will be able to buy the Playstation 4 digital version for a "significantly discounted price" once it becomes available, presumably when the PS4 launches on November 15 in North America.

I'm not sure what you mean by upgrade? You mean like if you buy the standard edition of the game , you will then be able to buy an upgrade to the premium version for the difference in price rather than buying the premium version at full price? Because if that's the case then that would be very good.

Let's say you want to buy any of the announced titles; Battlefield 4. Some people would want to buy it on the PS3 for some reason, but if they do that, they won't be able to play it on the PS4. That's where the upgrade comes in. You are able to get Battlefield 4 for a discounted price if you have the PS3 version.

Ex. BF4 for PS3 is $60.
If you want the PS4 version, let's say the original price was $60 as welll it was 50% off as the "highly discounted price". You are able to buy it for $30.

Not sure of the certain percentage of the discounted price, but it's a good deal if you want both games for both consoles.

This sounds good but you would probably be better off getting it just for ps4 because that's $90 just because you can't wait for like 5 weeks? pretty stupid this really i can't be bothered paying more.

This basically means that if you buy a game for your PS3 since most games coming to PS3 and PS4 both are releasing on PS3 first, then you can buy the game digitally on PS4 for a much much cheaper price.

I don't know why people are saying that this sucks, because in my opinion this is a really good announcement and really awarding people for being loyal to the PS3.

I guess that they are doing good on pulling this like Microsoft, but i am kind of doubting it would be that good. They simply say you can get a discount during a limited time for the games, they didn't said for how long or how good the discount would be, so will be waiting for further news for that.

This is good news for PS3 owners who won't being switching over right away. It's a good fan service for the consumers on Sony and Microsoft's part.

For the Xbox One though you only have to pay $10 for the upgraded version, I don't know why Playstation wouldn't be the same. So let's say they buy Titanfall on the 360 for $60, they can get it on the Xbox One for $10. Either way I'm looking forward to any other little things they plan on doing.

At first, I was really skeptical how they would be handling cross-generational games, especially hearing how they would not re-charge you for season passes. I thought they would make up the difference by having you buy the full retail game for both systems, but it looks like I'm pleasantly wrong. I'll take a 'significant' discount, and if they sweeten it to as down as $10, I'll take two. This was good news for everyone who's not going to be an early adopter, like me.

It's not about being loyal to ps3, Sony wouldn't care, they'd be happy as long as you bought their next 'new and improved' console. The day ps4 comes out, they should discard with the old console into retro history. It's had it's 8 glorious years, time to move on.

In a way, it's good. But I won't purchase a game on the PS3 and then purchase the same game again on the PS4! I'd just have to wait for the PS4 then buy games on it. I don't see any reason why I would buy the PS3 version first then buy the PS4 version again. I'd rather wait and get my hands on the superior PS4 version. But if I can't wait, then I would buy the PS3 version and wouldn't mind the PS4 version. I'd rather buy some other game instead.

It's great that Sony is doing the same type of deal as well, but like I said about the deal when Microsoft announced it for the Xbox One, I'm sure this really won't be of any use to me, as if I plan on buying a game for the PlayStation 4, I wouldn't bother buying it on the PlayStation 3 first. Still, maybe some other gamers will benefit from this somehow.

Oh I see where you're coming from, I think that it's a very fair point because not everyone will get a PS4 and it's not really fair to charge people the same price on an older console. I think that this is something that Sony should definitely look into.

I don't think that the discount will affect the price of the game much. I mean there is no reason for me to buy a game I already purchase. Especially if I beat the game before the system actually comes out.

It sounds good. But I wouldn't do it. If I played the game on PS3 I won't play it on PS4 even though the graphics would be different. Still I would get bored and not play it so it would be a waste of money. Maybe if I wanted to play the multiplayer on that console then I might do it.

That's great, because people who want to play the games now but plan on getting a PS4 don't have to wait or waste more money! Great move.

That sounds pretty neat, I can see how it would come in handy to some gamers although I don't think I'll personally be using this feature much unless there is a game that comes out which would make me really curious with how it will look on a next gen console. One of the games that come to mind off the top of my head would be GTA V, but I doubt there would be much difference especially since the graphics aren't too much of a leap anymore from PS3 to PS4. But like I said, at least the feature is there as an option.

Nice deal when I am reading about it, Sony must be having some challenging Terms and Conditions for this deal or offer, We will have to wait for the release of Playstation 4 to know about this deal.

This is pretty good for others, I guess, but I'm just gonna get games for the current gen and then pick them up again whenever I get a PS4 (years from now) and they're super cheap. I'm sure the upgrade system won't be around anymore by then.
