PS4 vs. Xbox One - The Ultimate Showdown!!!

Yeah. Beyond anything else it was the backwards compatibility issue which annoyed me the most. I am pretty sure I would have blindly bought the console which offered backwards compatibility over the other one. It is one of those things that you have to live with.

Honestly, if either the Xbone or the PS4 would have offered to play 6th or 7th generation games, it would make it a clear winner of the race without a question. The PS4 is still pretty far ahead if preorder statistics are to be believed, but with something like that the Xbox would literally have no chance.

I would have loved for backwards compatibility, but that's something that never going to happen. It would be a system seller though. The best we'll get is what the consoles do now, especially the Wii U where they offer all of their old games through their stores at a discount. I'm waiting to see what happens with the Xbox One, and hopefully for people who don't have great internet they allow for offline updating.

what about the games and developers...the fact that there are hot exclusives for each console means I'll have to pocket both.

True. Unfortunately we live in a world where exclusives exist and that's just the way it's going to be. Exclusives help companies like Sony make back the money that they spend on their consoles and draws in gamers. At some point there are games that are exclusive to the Xbox One that I might want to play and if I don't have a friend that owns the console then yes I'd probably have to buy it. But right now that's not the case. Maybe one day that will change but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Laughed at the "backwards compatible" part. I guess it makes sense since both consoles will be moving to newer architectures, but something like the virtual console for the Wii would be nice to see.

Isn't Sony planning to use Gakai for the backwards compatibility needs?

I'm going PS4 as like a few other posters have said, they grew up with the PS1, PS2, PS3...I got the xbox and 360 just for halo, I'll do the same once the XBone gets it. But I got to admit I'm a play station fan boy at heart.
The one bug bear I have is that the PS3 is just getting to look amazing. Look at GTAV the new Gran-tourismo looks stunning it’s still going strong. Don’t get me wrong I love that we have a new powerful system to get new games that will look amazing also, but I'm just sad I got to walk away from my PS3, well its gonna be in my sons room..

Just know guys, PS3 had The Darkness and such, a good game but the graphics weren't great compared to games now-a-days and such. Just wait, we're going to see beautiful games in the next 5 years. Imagine, Skyrim 2 :O

The X1 is better that the PS4 in a few things, but the PS4 is better where it matters most: Video games.
Sure, the launch lineup may not be that great, but the upcoming games look amazing and Sony owns many excellent franchises (Uncharted, FF, Last of Us, God of war, etc). X1 only has Forza, Halo and Titanfall (Which is coming out on PC too).

I'm liking what I see more in the PS4 simply because of the functions, the exclusives, and Sony's customer service. None of which the Xbox One has. The PS4 has a lot going for it and I've pretty much made up my mind that it's going to be my second console next to my Wii U. I just don't like how dismissive Microsoft is to people whose internet connection isn't that great.

I would be surprised if someone said Xbox One...on a PS4 forum! Personally I'm not really sure. I'm in a situation where the internet is limited by bandwidth and 30 gb is nearly not enough for the use of the Xbox One. That being said I would rather have PS4 since it's a console that works fine offline and online can be played whenever I feel like it.

I watched an Xbox One unboxing yesterday and with all the problems not just with the hardware but the mandatory Kinect and the fact that I hate the UI, I'm pretty convinced that it's PS4 all the way for me. Also I hated the fact that they don't explain how to use the new Kinect, I just saw a lot of people guessing and the interface is just as bad as the original. Just no.

First of all, I have both systems. Second, I fail to see where the PS4 has more features than the Xbox ONE. The PS4 OS is pretty bare bones at this point, especially when you compare it to the ONE's OS. Now, before you say I'm a fan boy let me state clearly that of all the 3rd party games I've seen on both systems look better on the PS4. It is at times like night and day. If you haven't seen Assassin's Creed 4 running at 1080p at 60fps on the PS4 vs. Ryse running at, strangely enough, 900p at 30fps then you need to compare those two especially if you're a videophile before choosing. Now, back on topic. Despite the processing advantages of the PS4 the Xbox ONE in my opinion, is more robust in what if offers. It has more applications out of the gate than the PS4, plus you're able to switch between gameplay, movies and TV apps quicker. At this point as far as which system has more features I don't think it's much of a contest. With that said, we all know that with firmware updates often come big changes in how the OS both for Microsoft and Sony will evolve. With all that said I really can't wait for Naughty Dog to blow us away with Uncharted and whatever else they may have up their sleeve. Then again, I can't wait for Titanfall to drop either.

I have both systems and honestly they both need work. You have to give them 6 months of updates before declaring a clear winner. PS4 has the edge in graphics no doubt. Both of them as far as under the hood options are similar. Both controllers are great and both are Bluray players. What really stand out are the OS differences. Xbox 360 was great but the new One OS is a bit scattered. Everything is still there but some things that should be front and center are buried. PS4 is very basic but I think they will improve that.

Both need to add a download history

I don't doubt that the Xbox One has some features that are great, but personally I don't like the way the HUD looks, I can't stand the Kinect so I appreciate the fact that we don't need it to use the system anymore. I just like the way the PS4 looks and works more right now then the Xbox One. Maybe with more work Microsoft might sway me but for now I at least know what I like better.

Thanks Game Branded AvalonX for your insight into PS4 and Xbone, seeing as you guys have both systems.
What struck me is you both agreed PS4 games look better graphically. Now this is important,Why? Cause first and foremost Im getting PS4 to play games. And Im quite sure almost everyone else who buys the PS4 or Xbone are buying them cause of gaming as their primary reason.
Any other features they offer are a distant secondary concern to me.
Other than making the UI better with more features etc with FW updates I dont care much about media streaming or TV or even playing music on them. The number one reason above any other is the gaming side.
So as long as they always improve that then thats good enough for me.
You both said the games on PS4 look better. So just wait a year or 2 down the track.I bet PS4 games will really start to look quite a lot better than Xbones titles. Multiplats are different, you cant fully judge on those. But its the exclusives that will show what is truly better,in terms of graphics anyway.

I agree with AvalonX... I think we would have to give them time to develop. It's really early to decide in my opinion. I'm not buying either until there are more games available.

Obviously I'm going to be siding with the Playstation 4. However Sony does need to work on addressing problems with the PS4. One being Bluetooth support for my headset

Sony has been fixing the problems with the PS4 pretty quickly so I'm anticipating them getting all the kinks smoothed out pretty quickly. I'd also like them to get the wireless headsets situation figured out and intergrated with the PS4 quickly. But so far the launches of both consoles has been smoother than I thought they'd be and the rate of defective consoles has been pretty low.

Both MS and Sony have been pretty eager to fix their mistakes, but I think the PS4 is still heavily in the lead. The bad publicity was simply too much for Microsoft at the start, and the PS4 got an earlier release date, as well as the promised better hardware statistics. I think the winner at this point is pretty clear, but sales reports will tell the truth I guess.
