PSN Account Hacked... Do's and Dont's...

For the 1st time EVER... I became a victim of fraud... Today at 6:50am someone decided to go on a shopping spree with my PSN account. I learned about it all, through the confirmations that were sent to my email. Thank God for them!

The person bought (4) PS 4 titles at $59.00 each... Which totaled $236.00 in all DIGITAL Purchases

- GTA V
- Infamous Second Son
- Thief
- The Last of Us

I immediately changed my passwords and contacted PS Support... They said a couple of interesting things... Which, I would like to share with you.

1) According to their representatives you're only allowed a MAX REFUND of $150. If the ammount is exceeds this, in my case it did, you will need to speak to a SUPERVISOR, it is up to them to determine wether or not the remaining ammout will also be refunded. So in summary, ASK FOR A SUPERVISOR!!! The support representative WILL NOT mention it unless YOU do so...

2) PS Support specifically states, you MAY NOT cancel the transactions through the BANK! Instead, they want you to call PS Support and have them refund you first! ( I know ! It makes no sense! Any sane person, who suspects they're victim of fraud, immediately calls their bank. There's simply no way of knowing the extent of the security breach until you do so!)

3) If you do go ahead and cancel the transactions through the bank, your account will be BANNED! Trophies, previous purchases and friend list, are all gone! There is a way to get the account unbanned, however PSN would still have to be reiumbursed the ammount they are owed. Yeah, you read that right! That means, if the hacker goes nuts buying games, they expect you to spend the same exact ammount he spent in any retail store. After you do so, you have to provide PS Support with proof of your purchase, so they could later reimburse you.

I love my PS3 and PS4... But our information is clearly not being handle appropiately. A quick internet search, will show this has been going on for quite some time now... Sadly, the policies PSN has in place to deal with this sort of problem are simply not up to par! I would go as far as to say, they are Anti-consumer! Often leaving the consumer with the short end of the stick!

Damn..And yeah, doesnt seem entirely fair Sony punish you by possibly banning your account for seeking a refund through the bank..Not very good.
This annoys me.

Hmm,perhaps it varies in diff countries?

Oh wow, I had no idea.
Thankfully this hasn't happened to me yet, if it ever does I will be extremely mad! Funny thing is, after reading your post, I'll more likely be mad at the very strict (to say the least) policy's than the actual culprit.

The third point is without a doubt the worse, considering the very first thing I would do would be contact the bank.
I'll have to agree with you on this one, our information is clearly not being handled appropriately.

I can't believe they made not cancelling the transaction a rule. That's the first thing I would do in that case. There's a good chance that they could have your credit card info. I have a debit card that I use especially for PSn but I'd cancel it. I don't trust Sony that much with my money.

Damn. Thanks for sharing your story. It makes me think twice about purchasing things on the PSN. I guess I just have to be careful. My account is linked to my credit card and not my debit card but its just crazy to me how they penalize their consumers when they are victims of fraud.

I only use pre paid cards and my info on my account is not 100% true. I have been advocating pre-paid CC's and psn/xbox live cards for years. I get a lot of "you're paranoid" responses but I have nor will ever put any info online or in my gaming systems that will allow theft of my funds or god forbid, my identity.
