Can you play old PSX disc on PS3

I've got quite a few I'd liked to play again, but my current monitor has no HDMI

Short answer, no. You cannot unless you have the first PS3 model that came out in 2006 with backwards compatibility. Your best bet is to either rebuy the old games digitally on the PS Store or buy a PSX or PS2 if you don't have onr and buy an AV to HDMI converter. They only run like 20 bucks on Amazon.
