Replaying: NBA 2K9

I have been rummaging through my PS2 games just recently. I have replayed games like Resident Evil, Virtua Fighter and God of War. Now, I have come across NBA 2K9 and played it too. I saw that my original save file was still present - with my created player and all. So, I played it for about 30 minutes and I noticed that the game did not age quite well. It no longer holds up to the NBA 2K games of today. Still, I had a blast playing this game years back.

Yeah, Basketball games today look really fantastic. The crowd is so alive, the players look so realistic, the moves are so smooth. The perfect example of an NBA video game is NBA 2K13. NBA games for the PS2 now seem so lifeless. The crowd look like cardboard cutouts. The players look blocky and the animation is not that smooth.

I agree that NBA based games have definitely come a long way in such a short amount of time. Comparing those graphics to those of the upcoming basketball games for the current systems and especially the upcoming ones and it's just no comparison. I'm definitely looking forward to playing the 2K games released on the PlayStation 4.

As far as sports games go, basketball has made major improvements over the past 3 years in particular.
