Should I get a PS4

I'm just wondering, I'm debating over this or a Steam Machine.

Personally, I say PS4. I know nothing about the Steam Machine, I know what it is, I just don't know that much about it with regards to informing someone what console they should buy

I would go for the PS4 since the SteamBox is unproven at the moment. It does have potential though since it does have a vast library of games, but the issues as PC games start to require hire specs, scalable hardware (how well it runs) will be an issue. With fixed specs, it's easier to optimize the software.

Depends, really. If they make lower requirements for steam machines, then it might work. Also, don't you mean higher?

Yeah, higher, oops. XD

As of right now though, SteamOS is a off-shoot of Linux. Witn no DirectX support, it really cripples its gaming capacity. We have seen that indies are now supporting OpenGL and the like, but a PS4 would definitely be a more immediate gaming payoff.

A SteamBox is really just a middle of the road gaming PC. We have yet to see if the SteamOS will really take off or not. PC gaming takes patience and it usually takes a lot of $$$. I can't imagine a Steambox lasting more than a few years, while the PS4 or XB will probably make a significantly longer run for the same money with no optimization headaches. If it doesn't take off, you can forget about companies making the game requirements lower for steam machines than PC. One thing it has going against it is that the hardcore PC gaming community will stick with their $1000+ builds rather than buying an inferior spec'd machine playing the same games. I say go PS4 or XB if you just wanna game without hassle.

I can see the steam machine not being too popular but I can fully recommend the PS4 but you might want to wait until you have a bigger variety of games.

I think your best option is a PS4 for now until the Steam Machines have amore united front. Right now I feel that Valve doesn't have a true sense of direction to where it wants to take the concept. Besides if what you wants is a gaming PC, you're better off building once from scratch.
