Should my friend get a PS3 now?

Hey guys, my friend wants to get a PS3 now, but since the PS4 is right around the corner I told him he might just want to wait. What do you guys think?

I'm starting to reconsider what I said, since the PS4 will be pretty costly initially. I just feel like it's a waste to get a PS3 right now.

1) you should introduce yourself in the appropriate forum
2) welcome to the forums zron
3) A ps3 now is a waste of money if he does intend on eventually getting a ps4
4) if he is primarily a retro gamer / blue-ray movie watcher / online tv watcher then by all means he might as well get it
5) tell him to save the extra $$$ and go for ps4, its not that costly
6) nice avatar pic

PS3 games will likely be super cheap. PS3 has some very great exclusives. Might aswell try does. I would say, wait for a price cut.

PS4 has no backwards compability, so if he wants to play the PS3's exclusives he's gonna have to grab a PS3, at least for the time being.

It depends. There is the benefit of it being cheaper, and so are the games, and there are some quality titles out for the PS3 right now.

But also remember that all that cash spend on the 3 and games could go to a 4...

Don't forget, they will still be releasing new games on the PS3 for a while. The last PS2 game was released on September 24, 2013. PS4 will take a while to truly take off with triple-A exclusives that utilize the console's power. So, there is a lot of time to enjoy the PS3 still.

I'm not the kind of person who would buy a console at launch, the better games come out later when the console is cheaper anyways. So in the meantime, if your friend can find a cheap PS3, by all means he should go for it.

If he wants to play a bunch of single player games, it would not be a bad idea to buy a PS3 now. There will be a huge library of cheap games available. The PS4 is not going to have a strong library of games for a few years.

If there are any PS3 games he wants to play, then he should get a PS3. But if he is only going to get games for the PS4, then it would be a waste to get a PS3. I have all the PS consoles and I play games on each because I have games for each.

When you think there is a lot of exclusive games and PS3 games that he might appreciate.
The games are really cheaper, the console is really cheaper .... THEN THE ONLINE IS FREE.

So why not?
There are plenty of treasures that can play on PS3 .... as Metal Gear Solid 4.
The PS4 will not have a lot of games at launch .... it is useless to hurry.

What game was released for the ps2 a month and a half ago? If thats the case, the development team behind that game need a kick up the backside.

If he or she is just like me who don’t go for items the moment they are released due to the weighty of their cost I would rather advice him or her to go for PS3 to have a watch as the prices for PS4 reduce a bit. But if he or she feels able and can afford buying the PS4 after its release I see no problem with him or her waiting.

I think it's still worth getting a PS3 now, especially if the person likes the games in its library, but it might be best to wait until PS4 is released, which I ***ume will drop the prices of PS3s even further. In this case, it wouldn't be too much of a waste of money, because it won't cost that much at all, especially if your friend just opts to buy a used system that includes all the top games, and when you get tired of it, then just sell it. I don't think PS4 will be filling up their library enough within the next year so personally, I think there's still some time left to catch up on older ones. That's just my take on it, at least.

I would say to wait until the PS4 comes out. If some of you can remember, the price of the PS2 dropped about $75-$100 when the PS3 came out. The exact same will happen when the PS4 lunches. Theres your friend's opportunity to buy a PS3 for less.

I agree, about waiting until the Playstation 4 comes out. I see no reason in getting the older system. Although the older system would be much cheaper than the Playstation 4 at the moment, considering how old it is.

No he shouldn't, if he doesn't have the money for a new PS4 he should wait until the spring or summer of 2014 when the old consoles will be sold at haft price maybe 80-100$ each. This is the best advice I can give you right now.

I'd say it's worth waiting for the PS4, unless you/your friend know some must have exclusives that won't be available in the next gen, and aren't on PC either. Although if price is a concern, there's a fair chance that you'll be able to get a PS3 for a fraction of the price once the next gen gets released, especially if you buy it used.

I suppose it depends on whether or not he is intending on buying a Playstation 4. If not, then by all means, buy a Playstation 3. It is pretty cheap now (I saw a second hand one for $100 last week) and the games are also great value too. The prices or these things will only decrease as time goes by. The Playstation 4 has no backwards compatability meaning that if your friend wants to play PS3 games (and there are some amazing ones to play) then he will need to buy a PS3. Honeslty I would recommend buying a PS3 and then waiting maybe a year for the price of the PS4 to come down before he buys that.
