Actually, the only reason why games are so expensive in their 'disc and casing' state is due to labor costs, as a good portion of that money goes toward the retailer as well. The middleman is entirely siphoned out when downloading games digitally, but then there is the issue of Sony having to pay server costs, so once the chain has circled around, the final prices end up being similar to or greater than (in some cases) going to the store physically to purchase the game. Perhaps some day we will have adequate hardware and internet connections to dissolve these high prices, but not any time soon.
