Skill tree cut offs

I think it's that gaming media (the major sites) have defined "hardcore" and "casual" (making "casual" gamers kind of a dirty word when you think about it) and are attempt to redefine "next generation" as being all about graphics and power when it's actually just the chronological order in which consoles are released and whatever is released within that period. Personally I never paid much mind to "hardcore" and "casual" until it just really became a thing with the last generation.

Prior to that it was simply what do you enjoy and which company's console gave it to you. Sure you probably picked sides, but if you did it was for that a slap fight over whose graphics look better and whose game is in 720p/1080p.

Before the term "casual" was even applied to gaming it was just "everyone" and "hardcore" meant how familiar you are with the franchise and related lore, history, etc. Not "I only play games with bunches o' bullets, buckets o' blood, and badass busty bitches...oh yeah, there's totes a story in there somewhere too, bro." That was just a mature (very loose use of "mature") game.

But you know, definitions change.

...had to get that off my chest.
