skipped responsibilities because of a PS3 game?

We've all done it at some point I bet. Has anyone ever skipped classes, called in "sick" to work because a PS3 game was just to darn good? Where would you draw the line for this? I can't count the amount of classes I skipped to play Modern Warfare 2 back in the day, however these days I need money and would never call in sick to play games.

I've skipped school to play UFC Unleashed and DCUO. Mostly DCUO. I didn't call in sick, I just no showed, came in and shrugged it off. My friend who skipped school to play DCUO as well actually had his excuse planned out.

I wouldn't say PS3 specifically has made me skip out on responsibility. More like games in general. I think they give a special way of getting out of reality. I mean if you're mad at someone, you can easily withdraw out of reality and enter a game where you can beat up someone to take out your anger, kind of. And also it just makes you forget about your real life temporarily. My personal opinion only!

Actually you're right, Diesel. It is the games themselves and not the console. It could be any console that has made you skip school or shirk work. As for me, I've skipped school to play Need For Speed. When DCUO first came out I sat out school, but mainly because I had played so late the night before I would've just slept through he first two classes and ended up skipping anyway.

GTA V and TLoU. Those were one of the best games this generation.

Lets just say I am fortunate enough that I can not go to work for a week and still survive comfortably so I do it more often than I would like to admit.

Well, some games have caused me to completely derail my sleep schedule by overextending my sessions. Mostly shooters though, as I can play those for hours on end without really noticing the passing time. Overall I couldn't miss a commitment like work or school just for a game though.

When I worked at my old company, we found a very, very odd correlation between the employees who played video games, and the sick days taken when a new game came out.

I remember when ... I think it was Call of Duty... came out? Our office turned into a wasteland. Every PlayStation gamer in that department was mysteriously ill that day. I'm not much into Call of Duty, so I covered for them the best that I could. "I think they all went out to eat together on the weekend. Must've been some bad beef or something."

Back when I was in school I used to do this all of the time. There wasn't any one game that I would play, really. I'd draw the line if your grades are suffering because of it. Looking back now I wish I would of payed more attention in school and tried harder so I wouldn't be stuck working dead end jobs. I wouldn't say that playing video games was worth missing out on a better opportunity down the line.

I skipped a lot of responsibilities playing on the PS3. I often got calls to pick up family members while playing at a friend's house, and I only ever gave into it once or twice because usually the matches are too intense to just stop midway.

Didn't goto a friends Halloween party, didn't go to a friends wedding. Haven't missed work, but have shown up late because I was playing the Last of Us and lost track of time.

I've forgotten to do plenty of stuff because of games in general. I'll start playing, look outside (it's still daylight, more game), notice it's getting dark (oh, those are just clouds), look out the window later on, it's dark...actual dark.

Never use the sky as your measurement of time when it comes to games lol

Missed a few classes in college after going on gaming marathon and maybe skipping on school to stay home and game. But beyond this I don't think I've been truly irresponsible because of gaming.

I could see myself possibly missing a wedding or a friend's graduation since I'm use to being entertained when I'm awake. At the last graduation I went to I played PSP the whole time. Once you've been to one, they're all pretty much the same: talking by class heads, talking by a lot of school personnel, music, more talking, roll call of graduates, wrapping it up with more talking, let's get out of here and get something to eat.

As an adult working full time, I've been skipping chores and errands to play games. Awful habit I know! What I sometimes wish I could skip is time spent with my SO, but a healthy relationship requires that you be there for your partner. Sometimes though I do miss being single and playing games way more than I should...
