It's a shame that Google is pushing this policy but it looks like all the copyright claims are standing. Some of my favorite channels have already announced that they are considering shutting down their pages and moving on to sites like blip. I don't understand why Youtube is doing this since gaming is their number one source of views right now. I'm the top channel on Youtube is freakin' PewdiePie. I guess that they are figuring that more people will stay than go, but a lot of these people have their own sites.

Youtube sticking Copyright claims everywhere

Youtube is worthless and Google ruined it because Google is trying too hard to enforce all copyright violations. The United States needs a complete overhaul of copyright and -patent laws. I actually know a guy that was in a little band that played for free and he keeps searching youtube and complains if anyone ever plays his bands music even though he never was part of a record label and played for free.

At least on the music side, performers are better off letting their music be played and make their money off the concerts I look at Youtube more as marketing than anything else but I guess with the crazy laws they have everyone wants their content removed or only shown if it is paid for. It kind of defeats the purpose of social media.

I always figured it shouldn't be a huge problem on Youtube if people weren't making money from other people's stuff. Even bands or companies said "Just put a link to your page or our logo in there somewhere, plug that shit" then a lot of Youtube content providers would be accommodating...especially if it meant not getting served or having to leave Youtube which has a wider audience anyway.

Some game companies like Ninty are trying to work with Youtube and LPers to get something worked out since it is free marketing. If they just made a few of these people "associates" that they wouldn't even need to invest in, it would help a lot. Actually they would benefit from being "That cool company that totally doesn't bury their lawyer's foot in people's asses."

Beyond that, there are some movies and albums that you'd only come across because of Youtube. All the stuff is there and it's easier to link to Youtube than to say "Here's a wiki of this album that has been out of print for a long ass time."

That ContentID scanner lost its shit and just went on a spree. It happens. It's the precursor to Androids appearing at content creators' houses and destroying laptops, consoles, and whatever else just because.

When companies are still starting out, they are innocent, they have freedom, they connect with its customers, etc. The longer the company runs and the bigger they get, the more big headed they become. The larger their operations get, the more the money does the talking and these once friendly, connectable companies become a draconian unreachable on top of the hill emperor. Remember how Microsoft was once a company that actually wanted to create products that serve its customers? Now it's Google and Youtube's turn.
