Sonic strikes again - why?

There is supposed to be another Sonic game coming out - Sonic Lost World. I really feel like this is pointless. So many of the Sonic games have been scrappy that most folks are going to annoy a new entry. I mean... why? That said I'm sure at least some folks will get it for nostalgia purposes if nothing else. Are you going to be one of those people?

Because Super Mario Galaxy was one of the most successful titles for the Wii, so Sega thought they would try the same schtick, is my guess.

I'm an old-school Sonic fan, but not a fanboy. The only Sonic game I played past Sonic Adventure 1 on the Dreamcast was Sonic Generations. I thought it was fun, but never cared about any of the other contemporary titles. I'll likely give this one a skip too.

Sonic Generations was definitely good and a step in the right direction. That's why I don't get how there was no real DLC for that or why they refuse to do a sequel for that game or another one that follows the same basic formula. Because that game could've been great with just a few tweaks when it comes to the physics and controls.
That said, I do keep an eye on Lost World because while I don't agree with a lot of the decisions they made and I'm not sure how well their gimmick will work, I still like at least what they are TRYING to do. They're trying to focus on platforming and interesting levels. Something that was sorta neglected lately.

Sonic is just one of those franchises people can't let go, me included. Even though it went downhill for me after just the second installment. Sonic 1 was very good, Sonic 2 was great, Sonic & and Knuckles good, Sonic CD sucked, those spin-offs (Spinball, 3D Blast) sucked, Adventure 1 was meh, Adventure 2 had fun Sonic/Shadow levels, the others sucked, everything after that was meh at best until Generations, which was good again. Oh and Colors went in the right direction as well but still had an incredibly off feel that kept me from having any fun with it, unfortunately. Still, they've been on the right track with that and Generations so taking my eyes off of them now of all times would be a bit backwards.

Well, Sonic is still a big name so even if the recent games were not that good and successful it's always logical for programmers and publishers to consider making another game with the character.

Sonic is a huge game really it does not matter about the gameplay mums and dads buy it for there kids if it says sonic on it, i doubt a 6 year old will be bothered about gameplay if i'm honest.

Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations was good, this one is also a step in the right direction, i don't see why that amount of flack for the series. It's looks nice, the plot is almost non-existent and you go fast, what do you want more?

I'm the same. Old time fan but no fanboy. I Won't be getting any sonic games ever again in the foreseeable future

I don't even want a NEW Sonic, but give me a nice HD port of one of the old titles and you'll have my money. Just do a retexture of it even, I don't care! Toss it up for $10 and I'm sure you'll have at least a few people like me who would pay just to relive a bit of childhood nostalgia. How I'd love to have my old Sega Genesis back for just a week or two to see that blue spike head in his glory day one more time.

I wish Sonic would stay 2D but add lots of stages and have his supporting cast be playable characters through special unlocks. My favorite Sonic game is Sonic and Knuckles because it was classic Sonic but only Knuckles could go certain places (he could punch through rocks), it was also cool that only Tails could get to certain places because he could fly. Let's go back to a simpler time, the fans will love you for it.

This game is definitely a lot different, as Sega teamed up with Nintendo to develop the game and you can certainly see the Super Mario Galaxy influence from watching the trailers for the game. Like someone else said, the Mario Galaxy games were massively critically acclaimed, so it seems like Sega wants the same to happen for Sonic.

Wow, they really won't let the series rest and die already. I mean, it was fun for it's time and some of the games still are, but now they have really
fallen off the deep end with some of the newer more modern entries into the seriers.

Sonic has a huge fan base, I assume, but I never really got it myself either. I only ever liked the first game, and I didn't really feel compelled to finish even that. I do get that he has some charm, though, and I particularly like the bonus stages in Sonic games, but I agree that it really doesn't seem like enough of a reason to have spawned so many adaptations and sequels.

Sonic is not a completely wasted series. There are some recent gems like Sonic 4, Colors, and Generations. The biggest issue is that Sega doesn't seem to care about consistency. Almost every Mario game is good or great. Sonic is not like though. You have a few good ones and a bunch of bad ones.

Sonic has been around for a long time and they have made many new games featuring the spiky haired hedgehog. I love the sonic games and I enjoy playing them. It doesn't surprise me that they are making another sonic game. Like the earlier posts state, Sonic is a big name game with a lot of loyal fans and it is always going to sell mainly for nostalgia and the fact that people enjoy playing the games in the series. I can't wait to see how it is so that I may decide whether or not if it is worth buying.
