Sony confirms PS4's Disc Eject problem

I didn't know that this was a thing but apparently some PS4 owners are having issues with getting their discs out of the system. From what I read in the article, there is no real reason for why this is happening but I suggest that if you own a PS4 and are having this problem you read it and follow the directions from Sony.

Sony Disc Problem

It got pretty bad, but Sony is working out it right now. Though I don't think that they really understand what the problem is yet. Hopefully they figure it out soon, because while it's not a system killer it is a major inconvenience for a lot of people. The problem is no one knows if this is a hardware issue or a firmware issue. I'm leaning towards firmware.

I'm just glad that Sony is working on it. And that unlike Microsoft, Sony is working hard to fix the problems because wow are people mad at the Xbox One and Microsoft. Here's hoping the disc eject is fixed soon though I'm wondering if it's a hardware issue or a firmware. It may just be that any user who is having this issue will have to get their PS4 replaced.

Seems like it was a good decision to not buy the console at the launch and wait for a price drop. Nice of Sony to come out and accept the issues. I am pretty sure the problem will be resolved when the later versions are put out in the market.

So what you're telling me is, launch day consoles are having hardware troubles? I wish I could tell you I was surprised. This is pretty much why I'm waiting to get mine.

Consoles at launch day are usually accompanied by problems, that's why I never buy anything the moment they came out.
The good side is that Sony is going to fix it, but it's of course really bad to the people who are already experiencing this.

Electronics in general have some issues. Nothing is 100%. Going to have some issues. The problem in our age of instant communication is that we have the ability to quickly spread the word, and problems of a few drowned out those who have no issues (which are the vast majority).

Anything under 1% (probably closer to .5 or .6%) I would assume would be accepted defective rate.

I think it's something that the majority of people expect. When you buy something at launch you're taking a risk of being one of the people who gets the the junk. That's why I never buy a launch console, there is much less of a risk of getting a bad one when you wait for the next couple of shipments. But so far the error rate of the PS4 is pretty amazing.

Is it just me that miss the "old" eject tray from the PS2? Or even the the open tray that the last PS3 model had (which i didn't like because i have mine under a stand and i can't open it on it's entirely)? I just feel that some things are more reliable than others.

Yeah. The PS2 eject tray worked fine mostly. Mine still doesn't give me any issues after all these years. I guess people won't learn that you don't have to fix what isn't broken.

Wow... so neither Sony nor Microsoft understand how to make a next gen disc tray... I wish I were more surprised, but nope. Not even a little bit. At least Sony isn't having to deal with broken Kinect 2.0s. And that's your silver lining!

I wouldn't worry about this. All console launches are shaky. If you are buying a console near launch, you should know what you are getting into.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is why you never buy consoles at launch. I understand the failure rate is relatively low, but I'd rather have a console that's been out of the oven for a while instead of one that's just stepped into the line of fire.

It's something that we all pretty much expect from every single console at launch, that some will fail for various reasons. It's either due to hardware or firmware issues. I'm not sure where the disc eject problem falls in but hopefully Sony gets that fixed soon because it seems really annoying.

This kind of thing is exactly why I waited to buy the console. Step by step instructions on how to remove it seem a bit dangerous, does anyone know if this also voids your warranty?

Yes. Messing with the PS4 will void your warranty, but Sony does allow for it. However from what I've seen it's very easy to do. One screw and your done, but you don't have to. 500GBs is a lot of space, and if you're after specific games there is no reason for you to use up everything. I can't see myself using all of it, but there maybe a point where I have to replace the HDD.
