Sony Possibly Splitting Up The Company - What Does It Mean For PS4?

Sony is reportedly in talks with Morgan Stanley and Citigroup regarding splitting its Entertainment and Electronics divisions.

I may have read on a separate article (I'll try to find it again and post it here) or heard it from someone that Sony isn't really profiting all that much from its electronics division and instead makes most of their revenue from the entertainment industry. This is surprising to learn, considering they were the ones behind the Walkman, but I guess it isn't too farfetched seeing as that was over 20 years ago.

If I recall correctly, supposedly Sony makes/made about $7.5B from its musical artists while making losses of about $8B with their electronics division. From someone who is a big fan of their consoles, that sounds terrible, but its understandable since the rest of their products have been looking like crap lately, to be blunt.

So what does this mean for Sony Playstation? Does it put a lot more pressure on it, to keep the company together, or is it too miniscule of a division to make a significant difference? If Sony does split up, do you think PS is a strong enough product/brand on its own to support Sony's gaming division when/if it becomes independent?

I had not heard of this news until now. I think Sony splitting up could see gamers with less support for the PlayStation, and less development for the future. I honestly don't think it would come to that though, and if it does, then I think Sony will have a few tricks up it's sleeve to keep the PlayStation community booming. Sony is making too many profits to let the community go down the plug hole.

It's certainly worrying to hear about this, but i would guess that it's the better for the company and the only thing we can do is wait and see.
