Sony responds to Crash Rumors

So we've been buzzing about Crash for a while now, and with major publications finally discussing the issue it looks like Sony felt forced to address the issue and basically all their saying is that Activision still owns Crash. So yeah, it's just Adam Boyes so it's really no comment and just further fuels all speculation. I refuse to give up on this but you can check out the feed.

Adam Boyes Comments on Crash

That's too bad. Maybe they were just originally paying homage to it, and everyone jumped to the conclusion it was being remade? I'm not a big fan of Crash, but I support it coming back since I feel like it would mean the start of a lot of other reboots.

It's weird now that things have been picking up steam, we don't really know what's happening with Crash. Either it's being developed by Naughty Dog or Activision is behind this and are trying to get attention. I think most people are pretty clear that we don't want Activision to have anything to do with developing a Crash game kinda like how people feel about the current Rare developing a Banjo Kazooie game. Things are pretty murky right now.

I want this to happen so bad, but more and more comments from Sony, and Activision is making me think that either they are manipulating us and Crash is coming or the comments are true and Crash isn't going to make a comeback. If Activision still owns the license then we might as well accept the fact that Crash 4 is never going to happen.

But, Sony said they are are bring back one of their old franchises and will have news on the Videogame Awards of this year, what else can it be? Parappa the rapper, they have the rights to that, right?

Activision has said that they are interested in bringing Crash back, but that could mean nothing since they've been 'interested' in bringing Crash back for years. I'm not 100% sure what's going on. It could be that Activision still owns the license and are letting Naughty Dog develop the game but both Sony and Activision are being clever about their wording and Naughty Dog hasn't responded to it at all.

To be totally honest I can see where someone would perhaps like to examine a reboot, but feel like it would be a lot of investment for little repayment. The term "Reboot" is not exactly something everyone greets with open arms and unconditional love. A lot of people are going to hate it just because there is a new team or because it forgot some aspect from 20 years ago that only the diehard really care about. Others will not care because Crash is for children and "casual players", and hardcore gamers are all about violence and unnecessary sexual content... like the Gamemaster intended. Finally there will be those who demanded a new Crash game - and I can't see much good coming out of them. Gnashing of teeth and wailing a blood curse upon the unborn generations they may yet come from the unworthy loins of the possible dev team maybe. But yeah.

I want a new Crash game, and I think most fans would be satisfied if it came from the hands of the original devs at Naughty Dog. The problem is that Activision may still be the owners and they are less then caring about the franchises that they own now let alone a franchise that they bought years ago and have proven that they could give a crap about. Things would depend on the reputation of the devs at the end of the day.

The news is driving me crazy because I want someone to just respond and tell us for sure whether or not Crash is making a comeback. The fact that Activision has removed any and all signs that Crash ever existed from their website makes me hopeful that Sony got it back, but everyone is being coy about this. Really I want Naughty Dog to respond.

Ah well, it was nice while the speculation lasted but really all of us need to be more sensible than this kind of optimism. The worst part is I still haven't completely lost hope for another Crash game. :(

I think that Crash is happening the question is who the devs are. We all know that we're hoping for Naughty Dog but this whole thing could just have been a way for Activision to stir up excitement for a Crash game that they know that most gamers don't want to see from them. Unfortunately we're not going to know more for a while until someone finally starts talking.
