Spawning problems

I want to help my friend in his world but i cannot spawn where he is.
Can't find him in this huge world.
How can we meet or tell where he is ?

get a map. you might need multiple maps depending on were he is. put them in items frames

This happens in Minecraft: Pocket edition to. i have no idea what causes this problem or how to fix it. Will get back to you.
