Speculation: Where do they go with the future storyline (AC3 Spoilers)

So at the end of Assassins Creed 3
Desmond is killed and Juno is set free to assuming take over the world.
I don't expect from what Ubisoft has said about the future storyline for it to move forward much in AC4. I think this is a transitional game for them so where do they go from here?

The main story and Desmond adventure ended in AC III when you choose to save the earth and release Juno. Desmond dies, and his body is wracked by energy in the final scenes of AC III. The game sis the story of Desmond and the a.ssasins brotherhood, the new Black Flag game is only an extra something that isn't a part of the original story

I've always enjoyed the present day side of the Assassin's Creed storyline and I was really happy with what they did in Assassin's Creed. I just hope that even though they won't be continuing that main story line they'll still do a great job of a new story line that may have some link to the old one. Either way, I'm confident that Ubisoft will do a good job of it, and I can't wait to see how it works out.

I think there's a fair chance AC4 will be just a "filler" installment in terms of the plot. They went as far as they could with Desmond, and unless they think of a new protagonist somehow, there's not much they can do with the story. Hell, you're playing an "unnamed research assistant" in AC4.

I wasn't a huge fan of the present day stuff in Assassin's Creed. It was okay, but the fun was in the ancestral stuff. That aside, I really don't know what they could do with AC. AC4 is filler, but a welcome diversion.

I totally couldn't get into the present day parts of Assassin's Creed. It was all about the reliving flashbacks to me.The present day parts were good for breaking up the entertaining parts of the game I guess.

As far as where to go with it there's the Civil War, the Wild West, another Assassin ancestor in another place during a time already visited, etc. I did like the idea of the Chinese Assassin's guild. I would like to see that explored in some way. There's always plenty of ancestors to visit, it's just the execution of that.

They've introduced an interesting new present where Abstergo is becoming a family friendly company. I'm interested to see where they take it but yeah, I'm sure AC4 was just a bridge into the next phase of the story. As for ancestors, it depends on where in the world and where in history they want to go. There's a lot of material it's just the present day storyline that they would need.

That's true. The present day story does bind everything together and to be honest, while I don't care to play those parts they're never a lengthy part out of the ancestral flashbacks. So most the story work would be handling present day stuff and making sure it flows well.

Makes me wonder what Desilets had planned and where it would've ended. Ubisoft said they had a definite end in mind, but it seems like they'll ride this until the wheels fall off and maybe do a reboot.

I could see a reboot happening. But the future storyline is a bit of a problem. They wrote themselves into a whole when they killed Miles but his story had to end. What they are continuing with is his line of ancestors, so the past segment will always be okay. They were clever with 4 but I don't see what they can do to continue the story.

I believe they'll somehow write themselves out of the corner for one or two more games before it's time to hit reset. Really wasn't a good idea to kill off Desmond when they probably though "...you know what would be fun and awesome? Pirates or vikings. I miss Desmond."

Me theory is that Desmond had a son and future games will be set a decade or two in the future with Desmond's son, or maybe way in the future with one of Desmond's great great grandchildren. Desmond will become an ancestor.

I believe that the ending and direction of AC after the second one was never divulged to Ubisoft so they're going in what they feel is the most logical direction. Of course, they probably felt that the series was already starting to get stale and went with a shocker in Desmond dying and further digging themselves in a creative hole.

Desilets knows exactly how he would've ended AC and how many games it would've taken. Ubisoft will probably reboot the series or take it on hiatus for awhile after the next AC.

My thoughts exactly, that's the problem when the driving force behind a game is money rather than content.

So true, Andrew.

I remember reading that Ubisoft were going to make AC an annual series, soooo...

Annual? Oh dear, any studio with their amount of developers can't produce a (good) game in that amount of time. And even if they throw more devs into the mix, there is such a thing as too many cooks in the kitchen. Especially when it comes to computer programming.

Well AC4 came out so quickly after AC3, all because suddenly people loved how you could sail on a ship. I think they rushed it a bit (some of the games are really glitchy) to keep us content until a bigger, better AC5.

The ship sailing from AC3 was the best part to me. They most likely put AC4 out to simmer everyone down for a future one since AC3 left many salty.

Indeed and it certainly shows, they put a good deal of effort into the ship mechanics and it does seem to be the vest part of the whole game.

I'm wondering where the ship mechanics will take us. I was interested in it in AC3, loved the progression in AC4 but they are going to have to give us more in AC5. As for the story, for me while Edward was interesting the present day story was just a transition into the next phase of the series. They made a real effort to address the issues that people had with AC3, I'm actually really looking forward to the next one.
