System Linked Red Alert

Do you guys remember playing Red Alert: Retaliation on PS1 across the link cable? I had some absolutely amazing times with some friends who would bring their PS1 over. Hours and hours were wasted duking it out in that game. Oh many, I almost feel like as games get more complex, it gets more and more difficult for companies to capture that same kind of magic for us (now) older gamers. Something about being young, naive and having far too many hours to burn on a game. Hah... youth.

I don't recall playing Red Alert through a link cable, but it's a great game nonetheless. Of course, if you know the cheat codes such as reveal map and instant nukes, you can easily win the game. The cutscenes in the game are quite alright as well, especially on the Soviet side where your adviser isn't manipulative or scheming as compared to the PC version.

I can't remember if you could cheat in the multiplayer sessions, but that would also take the fun out of it. It was definitely a lot more fun when you had to outwit your opponent with strategic genius rather than just brute force, though for those of us who've played this game... we know that it usually comes down to massing the largest amount of the best unit you can get and just throwing them at your enemy's base.

It has been years and years since I've played - I wonder if it'd be as fun now as it was back then.

I have played Red Alert on the PS1 but as a single player game only. I have never tried link cable. I wanted to test it with friends. We looked around town before but even the local video game centers did not allow link cable. We just ended up playing multiplayer on a PC instead via LAN.

I think I remember this game - it was the game that made my friend actually rage quit. Yes, I remember this game. It was hilarious to accidently murder someone on that game (I am not good at warfare strategy... unless it's like civilization or something).
