The Trend of Remakes and HD Remasters.

What is up with all the remakes and remasters coming out nowadays? A lot of old games are getting a re-release with updated graphics. I've just found out that the original Far Cry will be getting another release with updated graphics. What are your thoughts on this, are you content with re-releases or do you prefer them release another sequel?

I dont mind if they are great classic PS1 or PS2 games in HD,as long as they are not too expensive. As for PS3 games,do we them in HD again for PS4? Dunno.
I did hear a rumour a while back the first CoD Modern Warfare may be in HD on PS4 but I guess nothing has come of it.

But you mentioned the first Far Cry,Well thats never been on a Playstation system before to those of us that have never played it before it may be a welcome addition.Again,as long as its not very expensive though, which usually they are not.

Sometimes I feel that publishers are taking the easy way to make cash by doing this. Game devs do not have to spend too much time to come up with new concepts, and releasing games again sound like them milking the games. If the CoD 4 thing is true, it's even worse, the original was already HD there's no need for another one.

I don't mind if they are HD remakes for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but I am not fond of them releasing PS3 titles on PS4 already. Example would be Tomb Raider, Diablo III, the rumour of GTA V and quite a few PSN titles are making it's way to the PS4 that were originally on the PS3. Just release some brand new games for the PS4. The library of exclusively for the PS4 games is quite small.

It depends.

I don't think they should be full priced games (most of the time). It's a cash grab, no question, but especially for games that are expensive, it's good. I have Jax and Dexter HD, so I don't hate them. I'd love to play COD 4 on a next gen system, I'd buy that pretty quickly.

I'm very mixed on the subject. Though on the one hand its nice that they see the light of day again to be enjoyed by people who have never played it, on the other hand is I'm a purist. I don't believe that a games graphics should be updated and look "nicer" just to have the people be like "oooo. Look at this." I've never bought an HD remake just for that reason. I believe a game should be played as it was originally made. But hey, that's just me :)

To be fair, I like remakes too but only if the game is really old, like PS1 or PS2 era old. What's up with the remake of games from just the previous generation? Far Cry is understandable for the Playstation since we didn't get it the first time.

I prefer remakes to remasters. When you get a remake, sometimes it's the case of taking a game that is old and would technically be new since it hadn't been heard of for 10 years--like Rygar.

HD remasters are okay if I haven't seen the game in years. Like a decade and then some. If a PS1 game came to PS3 or PS4 and they ran with an HD remaster, that's cool. Something that was out 5-8 years ago, no.

I have no problem with remakes at all.

Yeah remakes and reboots are fine. Sometimes you luck up on a good one like when they kicked off Prince of Persia, brought back Strider, and I believe went with a new Altered Beast. There was also another Master System game that was remade for either PS2 or PS3 and wasn't too hot.

I'm indifferent about HD remasters. If there's one so be it, but I get interested in reboots and remakes for sure.

Is there a game you'd like to see an HD remaster or a remake to? I'd like a remake of The Bouncer and EOE from the PS2. Especially EOE.
