Third Party Hardware

There's another thread talking about incompatibility of old hardware that's third party. Well, this thread is about hardware you want to see for the upcoming PS 4 that third party vendors might supply. I myself am a sucker for headsets and controllers when it comes to third party stuff. I like to have my controller and usually use the controllers that come with the system as the ones for my guest and backups.

I also like to have really nice head sets since I play a lot of coop games with my buddies. There's not usually a great affordable solution by the first party providers. What are you all looking forward to?

I love third party gadgets. I think what the other companies are able to come up with most of the time are very neat, and even when they suck, it's nice to see the reviews on them or just marvel at the fact that they exist. That said, I would like to see gun games come back into the trend, especially since we now have better technology for it. I remember having so much fun playing Duck Hunt on Nintendo, and Time Crisis on PS1, and I'd often wonder why they don't make more gun games seeing as these games are so memorable to so many people. They should definitely do it right this time around and make a proper gun, though. This recent one that PS made for the move seems too forced and it sucks that you'd have to use the PS Move controllers for it.

Ripley has kind of a good point there. Its pretty important to not create hardware that you are trying to force to the consumer. Making something just to make it doesn't mean it will be any good. A gun like hardware can help relive Duck Hunt memories or even play into a Time Crisis style game, but there has to be more that it is applicable for. I think it'd be hard to push into games as they are right now that require finess movements and aren't just set pieces at a shooting gallery.

With that said, I'm not sure I want to be running all about the living room, jumping behind furniture and dodging virtual bullets when I sit down to play some Uncharated as well. I'll still take the awesome third party controller though.

I don't really see any point in third-party accessories beyond headsets and controllers. I haven't bought a third-party accessory since I bought a couple of cheap controllers for my PS2 off eBay. They were okay, but one of them broke immediately when I got frustrated and threw it (tee hee). They weren't even brands that I recognized, though, but they worked alright for the price. Definitely a trade off in terms of price and quality, so I guess it depends on your preferences.

To be honest I've never cared that much at all for third party accessories. I guess there nice to use for places like an arcade or something but for my home console I always prefer a plain traditional first party controller. When my PS3 controller died, I decided to go ahead and purchase a third party controller since it was much cheaper. Turned out to be a big mistake as the wiring of the controller didn't last long at all. Decided from then on to never purchase third party controllers again.

It doesn't really affect me either, honestly, except for where headphones come in. I also do a lot of co-op and online play with friends, some of whom live quite some time away, and I keep in touch with them this way. Thankfully, this only has to deal with incompatibility, meaning while we'll have to live without headsets and sleeker controllers for a little bit after the release, third party hardware for the PS4 is bound to swing around within the first year. It's not that bad if you ask me. I'd like to see what new designs and hardware vendors come out with anyway.

Basically, I'm just yelling for a company to make me look cool when I yell at my buddy for leaving me behind during some crazy fire fight. If there's a way to make me look more awesome when I'm being shot by people who play way more then me, that'd be great. Honestly, I hate the cut out that you get with cheaper headsets. The thing where someone is talking and it just cuts like an old phone line. Its annoying and it takes away from the concentration I have on a match. I also hope to see some nice power stations as well for the controller, something that looks okay on the TV stand and not so silly and bulky.
