trouble installing ps4

I just baught a ps4. After plugging in and configuring wifi it asked for software update (1.76) without which it didn't allow anything. 194 MB sized updare was downloaded. Then it showed preparing to install and stayed there. What shall be done next. Restarting asks the update again. The box came with a single game "The last of us"

Ok, this is what you should do: Delete the update file you downloaded and then go to the "System Update" option on the PS4.
Your update file is most likely corrupted and that's why it doesn't go past the "preparing to install" screen. Try that and let us know if it worked, I'm sure it will though.

Are you referring to settings-> system software update?

Yup, make sure you deleted the other file you downloaded and then go there. It will restart the update process and download a new update file which will most likely solve your problem and finish the update.

It says system software: version 1.76. Lets see what happens. Oh I forgot to tell you I initialised it before downloading. Is that ok?

Yeah, it's very likely that's what's causing your problems. Try downloading it at a time when it's more stable and doesn't disconnect so much. You could also try hooking the PS4 directly to your router with an ethernet cable, at least while you do the update.

Download complete but its stuck at "Preparing to install..."

Any other advice? Can I download the update in USB and update it from that?

Yeah, that was the next thing I was going to suggest. I was gonna do that back when I had this problem, but just restarting the update fixed it for me.

Just download the update for the region your console is from, create a folder called "PS4" and inside that another folder named "UPDATE." Put the file you download there and on the PS4 go to System Software Update again to do the update.

Hey, that's great man, I'm glad it finally worked. Enjoy The Last of Us, it's an amazing game, one of the best, if not the best in the console. If you run into more problems don't hesitate to ask, someone here is bound to have had a similar trouble and might be able to help.
