Ubisoft reveals Child of Light

Far Cry 3's creative director's new pet project Child of Light was revealed at GDC today.

It's not currently known which platforms it's coming on, but knowing Ubisoft I'm pretty sure they will try to release them on as many platforms as possible.

The whole idea reeks a bit artsy to me. Now, I'm one of the first to go on the misty eyed "Games are art!" rants, but I think the only games that are art are the ones that... Weren't really trying to be?

Like Portal. It's a very stark, bland aesthetic design that doesn't feel like art so much as a blank canvas (okay, so maybe modern art : P), but the game had character and personality from... Well, the character and their personalities.

Good to see that it's inspired after one of the last good Final Fantasy games, though. That alone supports my cautious optimism.

Yeah, I would almost bet this will come to the PS4. The art looks good, but really need to see the game in action before we can really judge.

The art looks pretty good and I like JRPGs so I'm looking forward to it. Ubisoft are still pretty good developers in my book.

Well, it does look pretty, so i will be putting this under check until they show how it plays.

I'm all for that kind of aesthetic design. I love water color art, and I like how there's a bleakness to it. It's pretty rare that Ubisoft makes duds, and this is coming from the creative director of a big title. I'm interested.
