Video Game Addiction

We are all avid gamers and we love gaming for the most part i would assume. But has there ever been a point where you felt that you were addicted to gaming?

I always have been addicted to gaming. I have been addicted to playing League of Legends, Minecraft, and Battlefield. And I don't know why im playing those games, or what the point is on playing these games.

Yeah I can understand that. When you have quality games like that, it is hard to not get addicted.

I used to be addicted to gaming since my childhood. I just could not control my addiction such that it cut into my school days as I only wanted to play games on the NES at that time. Eventually my addiction progressed all the way to playing a PS2, but in time I finally learned how to control myself. I guess it was my self-determination, self-discipline, and my constant martial arts practice which finally rehabilitated me from my addiction to playing computer games. Also, I guess I got bored with the few games that I've been playing.

I feel I am addicted. The thing is, I don't really play all that much lately. But that doesn't stop me from constantly buying games and thinking about them. Seems if I do something I have to over-do it.I have wasted so much money on gaming. I have two Xbox 360s and two PS3 and so many games that I have only ever played a handful of them. I have lately thought about doing something drastic and getting rid of everything gaming I have. It's just become a chore that I create new PSN/Xbox accounts to try to "revive" my once favourite hobby. 99% of the time it fails. It's to the point where I have thought about seeking professional help.

You just have to make sure your gaming does not interfere with other elements of your life such as school, work or family life. It's okay to play as long you handle your other responsibilities.

I'm not addicting to gaming. I do spend a lot of my spare time gaming though.

It may be because I see gaming as my number one hobby. If someone took away both my 360 and Ps4, I would be extremely pissed off, but I wouldn't get the shakes or go on a rampage. :o

I used to be really addicted to gaming. When I would come home from school or get back from class, I'd just game. When I was unemployed, all I did was game for the most part (and hunt for jobs an hour or two a day online). I still have a big fondness for it but since I started working full time after college and started planning my business, I for the most part got other priorities in my life. I still love buying games to add to my collection and playing games but its more of a hobby these days than an addiction.

I used to be addicted back in the 90's. But stopped gaming for a good 13 years before picking it back up again this past October. But to me, its not the same now as it was back then. :(

Nope. I think the point where you would think that is actually the point at which you realize you're not. The person who is honestly addicted isn't concerned about that possible addiction, because they are busy logging in 1400 hours of WoW or Eve or COD or whatever.

Yes. Very so. I started playing video games in 1998 and got addicted to them as a kid. I played for almost 40 hours straight one time...this was like 5 years ago. I've been playing video games for almost 16 years.

It's safe to say that I used to be addicted to gaming when I first started out. When I was still a teen, I think and talk about games all the time. I'll play whatever games that are released and play for hours at a time. These days however, I'm no longer addicted to gaming. In fact, I don't feel as excited as before anymore when new games are released. These days, I only game when I'm free and bored.

I wouldn't say I've been addicted. When you're addicted other parts of your social and professional life tends to suffer (unless you're a professional gamer then it's just social I'm guessing).

I've never felt I was addicted to gaming currently. I used to be, but now I set my TV to cut off at a certain time and set my phone to give me a warning before.

So you're still addicted in a way if you're having to take measures to limit your gaming.

I love to play video games, but have never been "addicted". Having a full time job, and being a full time dad doesn't really allow for the time to even be able to consider it an "addiction". That being said, I buy games all the time, and when I find a game that I can really get into, the completionist in me comes out and I have to 100% it. I thought that part of me died a long time ago, but lately I have found a couple games that have reignited that fire. Also, now that my kids are getting older, it is easier to get into the same kind of games that they like to play, and its a good way to spend time with them. I can definitely say that they are addicted, almost to an unhealthy level. :)

I wouldn't consider myself "addicted." I'm a functional gamer.

...I'm not like a Sega mule smuggling Sega games to get money for PlayStation and Nintendo games.
