Sony revealed a ton of stuff tonight at its pre-TGS press conference, but perhaps the biggest surprise (well, other than a PS Vita redesign) was the unveiling of an all-new piece of Vita-related hardware. It’s called PS Vita TV, and it lets you play Vita games on your television... and do a bunch of other stuff, too.

PS Vita TV is a tiny piece of hardware. It’s about as big as a deck of cards, measuring 6cm by 10cm. It’s the smallest PlayStation hardware ever.

The idea of PS Vita TV is to let you play Vita games on the big screen using a DualShock 3 controller, but there’s actually more to it than that. While PS Vita TV has a card slot for Vita games, and accepts Vita memory cards, it will also let you use video streaming services (such as Hulu) and more. It will even let you play your PlayStation 4 via Remote Play with DualShock 4; this functionality will come later via system update.

It will also let you play PSone Classics and PSP games through it, again using the DualShock 3. And it will connect to PlayStation 4 so that you can play Vita games through PS4, as well.

PS Vita TV launches in Japan on November 14th, and will cost 9,480 Yen ($95). A special verison of it, packing an 8 gig Vita memory card and a DualShock 3 controller, will cost 14,980 ($150). It sounds like it will eventually be released in the west, though a specific release date (as well as pricing information) is still unknown.

I don't know about ya'll, but I think this thing's price and features could be a big game changer. Hell, a dude that wants a Vita but doesn't care about portability would go crazy if they saw this thing at that price.

Definitely not worth it for me at all but for those who have a psvita and no ps3 then go ahead but I already have both so no point to getting vita tv.

You do know the PSP and the Vita have games on it that the PS3 doesn't, right? Or don't you? Are you one of those people who thinks games on portable devices are lesser than their console counterparts?

I would probably buy this because you can play your PS4 in the another room using wifi. That is a big perk that I really want to use because I have like 3 TVs at home sharing with others and if I want to play the PS4 somewhere else I could just use this to play the PS4 in some other room.

Methinks this will be quickly forgotten by the average consumer and used solely by the most hardcore fanboys. I just don't see it being that useful, as much as I wanted it to be.

They are probably just testing the thing out, it will eventually come out in the west after a few months, maybe after the PS4 has some months of life.

Not interested no matter how much Sony would market this. I don't even know who the target market of this thing would be. With all the problems that the PS Vita is facing, I'm surprised that Sony would come up with such a gadget.

List at least a few of the problems you're referring to. Once you're done that, realize that this is not an actual Vita, but a machine that allows you to play Vita and PSP games on your TV, and it's significantly cheaper than the Vita (and likewise, PS3). You can't possibly see how this would interest people? You know, particularly broke people?

I personally can't wait to get to try this out, even if just for curiosity's sake, and especially since it doesn't seem like it would be very expensive. I just hope the streaming capabilities are as good as I would expect it to be, but I'm sure they've already ironed out the kinks if they already released it in Japan.

Well it seems it is like a PS3 in the way it will act. It seems quite weird actually. I would probably just get this to try it out. Seems like it is defeating the object of a portability gaming device.

Has anyone in the US or Europe imported one of these yet? I'm extremely curious as to how restrictive it is in terms of being able to play domestic games on it, navigating menus, getting on PSN, etc. I know I should probably just wait for a US/EU announce, but I'm having a hard time waiting, and I don't want to shoot myself in the foot!

I think that the ability to play Vita on the big screen is awesome, but can't you already do that through your PS3? I thought you could attach the two devices and play on the TV. Or maybe this is for folks who don't have a PS3...anyway, I think it's neat and adds more value to those who want a Vita but are struggling with the current limitations.

No, you can not play your Vita on your TV with either a PS3 or PS4, sadly. You CAN play PS4 games on the Vita through Remote Play, though.

The Vita TV is a very good idea and does sound good. However, I don't think I'm going to get it because I really don't need to play on the TV screen, which is what the portable gaming console means. I will not try it just because it sounds but I'm just not interested in it.

Terrific feature but still not enough to add to what I already have. I don't play as much as I used to so it wouldn't make financial sense for me to add that into the mix.
