Hey folks, I'm fantanoice (pronounced fanta-no-ice). I'm a game designer and student, and also a huge forum addict. I saw this place advertised somewhere and thought it looked neat, so I joined up.

Hey, there's no reason why you can't start and try and learn the skill. :3 I find Game Maker to be really fun to try out in the early beginnings, then you can move onto something like Unity/UDK when you want something with a bit more polish.

Well, I actually went to college for a year for game design. I guess it's more I have no patience/ I am not interested at all in the starting games you'd need to make. I have a few RPG stories I want to make that people say are awesome, but again I don't want to make anything else. Plus I have no programming or artistic skills, and my game design abilities aren't up to par. I did organize a 20 level project in LittleBigPlanet over te course of 20 months, but eh. We're going off topic :/ Hiya and welcome, Ms...? Is it Ms? Fanta just makes me think female and your avatar implies that too, so until further notice I'll just assume that to be the case.

Well, if you want a storytelling thing then I'd suggest try out Ren'Py, which is a visual novel engine. That way you can develop little visual novel stories (Ace Attorney, 999, etc) that can also have game-like aspects, like different story paths. You don't have to worry about making really complex areas or mechanics because you can just get right down to the import thing, the story.

Or you can just write a novel if you can't be bothered with the 'visual' aspect.

Well, no. I want to make a JRPG or Zelda style adventure game. I don't really like visual novels. And besides, I still have no visual talent.

That's what artists are for!

What about a tabletop RPG like Dungeons and Dragons? That will let you make puzzles and stories without needing to worry about drawing anything.

Nah, I don't like playing tabletop RPGs so I wouldn't like to make one.

And I've been known in some circles to be the guy always trying to MAKE ARR PEE GEE XD I got at least one person who's learning to program but doesn't know enoug, and many people just think my attempts to make RPG are somewhat of a joke by now XD oh well
